Education for all: Naumburg's new school campus takes off!

The first decisions will be made this week at the Naumburg educational campus that will pave the way for a future-oriented educational project. District Administrator Götz Ulrich (CDU) came up with an interesting calculation problem: “60 minus 15” – and this resulted in the total costs of around 60 million euros for the new campus, with the district covering 15 million euros and the remaining 45 million euros coming from European funding. The school campus is to be built on a brownfield site of the former grain farm on Schönburger Straße, as mz.de reports.

The educational campus has great ambitions: the goal is to combine school support, general education and professional orientation in one place. The Education Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Eva Feußner, sees this initiative as an opportunity for the region and emphasizes the importance of training prospects. The Burgenland district council already approved planning services amounting to 3.3 million euros in July 2022, and the award is continuing to progress.

Funding and further steps

The project is funded with funds from the Just Transition Fund (JTF), a European funding pot that supports the Central German Revier during structural change. A total of 45 million euros are available for this in Saxony-Anhalt, as Burgenlandkreis.de states. In addition, the educational campus is part of a holistic educational concept that stands together with the educational campuses in Zeitz and Weißenfels.

Jörg Riemer, headmaster of the vocational schools, sees many advantages in merging secondary schools, special needs schools and vocational schools. The building application will be submitted in the second quarter of 2023 and construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2024. The first students are scheduled to be welcomed to the new educational campus in autumn 2027. The connection to the “Unstrutbahn” rail network with a new “Landratsamt/Bildungscampus” stop will also make it easier for young people from the western Burgenland district to reach.

A holistic educational offer

The ambitious project not only stands for structural measures, but is also intended to promote equal opportunities and participation for all children and young people. The state government sees the project as an important step in the fight against the shortage of skilled workers. The funding from the JTF totals 45 million euros with a funding rate of 78%, which underlines the importance of this project in establishing an inclusive education system.

Overall, the project shows how education systems can be adapted to the requirements of a rapidly changing society. Information about further funding projects and developments in the field of education can be found on the [Just Transition Fund] website (https://strukturwandel.sachsen-anhalt.de/entwicklung-foerdern/eu-foerderung/just-transition-fund-jtf-fond-fuer-einen-rechte-uebergang). The future of training in Naumburg is taking shape and has the potential to give the region new impulses.
