Burgenlandkreis is testing new warning systems on warning day 2025
The Burgenland district is preparing for the nationwide warning day, which will take place on Thursday, September 11th, 2025. From 11 a.m., all 243 sirens throughout the district will be activated. The siren tone will be a one-minute up-and-down wail, followed by an all-clear sound at 11:45 a.m. with a one-minute continuous tone. The aim of this day of action is to inform the population about the warning devices available in dangerous situations and to make the various warning channels known. Burgenlandkreis.de reports that parallel to the sirens, a trial warning will also be issued by the federal government via the Modular Warning System (MoWaS). This system reaches warning apps such as NINA and KATWARN as well as numerous radio stations.
Another highlight of the upcoming warning day is the test of the “Automatic Safety Alert” (ASA) warning system. This innovative technology uses DAB+ digital broadcasting technology to automatically transmit warning messages to radio devices. This means that even devices that are switched off can receive important information and interrupt radio operation. ASA technology works independently of cellular or internet connections, which is a great advantage in critical situations. DABplus.de highlights that ASA alerts will in future be available on special ASA-certified radios that are already available in stores.
Important information about warning day
- Datum: Donnerstag, 11. September 2025
- Zeit: Auslösung der Sirenen um 11 Uhr, Entwarnung um 11:45 Uhr
- Verwendete Systeme: Sirenen, Cell Broadcast, MoWaS, ASA
The nationwide warning day takes place annually on the second Thursday in September and serves not only to test the warning systems, but also to raise awareness among the population. BBK.de explains that the test warning is sent in the form of a warning text and goes to all warning multipliers connected to the modular warning system, such as radio stations and app servers.
In addition, municipal warning channels will also be activated in participating districts and municipalities. Loudspeaker trucks and sirens are used, while the all-clear is also given via these channels. However, no all-clear signal is currently being sent via cell broadcast, although this is being checked by mobile network operators.
On September 11th, citizens will have the opportunity to test the ASA system live. In advance, you should find out how you can set up the new ASA-certified radios. Information about this and a reception forecast can be found on the website www.dabplus.de/asa.
The technical implementation of these innovative warning systems takes place in close cooperation between Digitalradio Deutschland e.V., Fraunhofer IIS, Media Broadcast and other partners. As DAB+ technology continues to expand, we can look forward to progress in warning system development.
