Equality in Burgenlandkreis: Conference brings fresh ideas!

Today, June 23, 2025, equal opportunity representatives and those interested will meet in Weißenfels to discuss important issues in equal opportunity policy. The Federal Working Group for Local Women and Equal Opportunities Representatives has invited people to promote this exchange and develop concrete recommendations for action. The conference entitled “Rural areas in transition” will take place on June 23rd and 24th in the picturesque Schumanns Garten and promises exciting insights into the challenges and opportunities that rural areas offer. Burgenlandkreis.de reports that the highlight of the event will be a lecture by District Administrator Götz Ulrich, who will talk about structural change in Burgenlandkreis, an example that could not be better chosen in terms of social and economic transformation.

A central concern of the conference is the women's policy dialogue. Participants can expect interactive workshops in which concrete solutions for updated equality strategies are developed. This initiative goes hand in hand with the federal government's fourth equality report, which Dr. Ulrike Spangenberg will present on Monday morning. In this context, the common will to create sustainable structures in rural areas is also discussed, as emphasized on Gleichrechte.org.

Program highlights and workshops

The conference includes a variety of program items, which are rounded off by networking opportunities and the promotion of social-ecological dialogue. On Monday after a shared lunch snack the following is planned:

  • 13:00 Uhr: Come-Together
  • 14:00 Uhr: Begrüßung durch Katja Henze und andere
  • 15:15 Uhr: Impuls von Götz Ulrich zum Strukturwandel
  • 16:00 Uhr: Podiumsgespräch über Mobilität, Wohnen und Gesundheit
  • 18:30 Uhr: Gemeinsames Abendessen mit poetischen Einlagen von Jessy James LaFleur

Taking this momentum with us, Tuesday is all about the workshops. Gender-related equality in mobility and approaches to equality in health care are just two of the topics that will be discussed. The whole thing ends with a summary of the results and a shared lunch.

Participation and registration

Participation in the event is free of charge, and hotel and travel costs are also covered. This enables broader participation and gives many who might otherwise feel excluded, especially in rural areas, access to this valuable exchange. Anyone who is interested should register promptly using the registration form, as the number of places is limited to 50 people. Registrations are possible at Sira Eberlin, available at kommunal@gleichrecht.org or by phone on 0163 219 3881.

Another aspect that affects the equality report is the use of Matomo, an open source tool used to analyze participant numbers and improve the user experience. Bundesregierung.de makes it clear that user data remains anonymous and no personal information is collected. This ensures that the participants concentrate on what is important – the exchange on equality issues in our rural regions.

Overall, the conference will be a place of inspiration and concrete action to advance equality in rural areas. In this way, a better understanding of people's individual situations is created, which strengthens everyone involved in the long term.
