Highest forest fire warning level in the Burgenland district: Immediate measures necessary!
There is a sense of alarm in the Burgenland district because the forest fire warning level has been raised to the highest level, 4. Loud MZ The responsible authorities distributed the warning message by email and via the disaster warning app Katwarn. This means that extreme caution is required as the risk of forest fires has increased significantly.
The composition of the region's forests is key to this warning. Particularly in the warm months, the risk of fires is increased by dry weather and elevated temperatures. On a five-level scale of the Wildfire Danger Index (WBI), level 4 means high danger, as does the Weather Hazards Service explained.
Significantly increased risks
Warning level 4 comes with strict regulations to minimize the risks. Leaving public roads and paths in the forest is expressly prohibited. Likewise, burning or smoldering objects may not be thrown into the open countryside. Smoking near highly flammable materials and agricultural equipment is also not permitted. Particularly important: Open fires are prohibited in the forest and within 30 meters of forest areas, except at designated barbecue areas.
There are also special requirements for the ongoing grain harvest. In fields less than 30 meters from the forest, a five-meter-wide plowed strip must be created after harvesting to prevent the possible spread of fires.
Forest fire danger at a glance
The forest fire danger index (WBI) serves as an important tool for assessing the risk of forest fires. It divides the risk into five levels: from very low danger (level 1) to very high risk (level 5). The local authorities use the WBI to warn the population in good time. The system is supported by the German Weather Service (DWD), whose comprehensive information is also available at dwd.de can be found.
We advise all citizens to adhere to the rules in force and to be particularly careful to prevent possible fires. The forest is a valuable habitat whose preservation is a shared responsibility.
