Traffic chaos threatens: Draschwitz closed from Monday due to renovation!
From Monday, September 1, 2015, residents of the Nonnewitz district can expect increased traffic. The background is the complete closure of Zeitzer Straße in the Draschwitz area, which is being carried out due to urgently needed ceiling renovation work. As the MZ reported, this measure is commissioned by the state road construction authority of Saxony-Anhalt.
Traffic will be rerouted from Profen via the main road to Nonnewitz and Theißen. Local mayor Ralf Schenk expresses concerns about the current traffic routing, which could potentially lead to higher noise pollution. “We already have enough potholes here that have only been patched up in a makeshift manner,” said Schenk, who also criticized the Zeitz city administration for poor communication about the problem.
Fear of noise and dissatisfaction
Road traffic is not only the dominant source of noise in Germany, but also a major problem for the quality of life of local residents. Around 75% of the population feel disturbed by road traffic noise. According to a survey, 2.3 million people feel exposed to levels above 65 dB(A) all day long, which can have health consequences. This information comes from the Federal Environment Agency.
In Ralf Schenk's eyes, the diversion could not only lead to more noise, but also to greater dissatisfaction among citizens. “We would like to see more calm and better communication regarding the budget situation here,” demands the local mayor. He hopes that the traffic mileage, which is intended to control speed during school start times, will be put up again soon.
Modern approaches to noise reduction
Noise pollution is a complex issue that not only affects people in Nonnewitz. Innovative noise reduction technologies are becoming increasingly important. Modern approaches, including AI-based analyses, offer precise detection of noise sources. These technologies make it possible to identify disturbing noises and closely monitor how they spread Fraunhofer Transport describes.
Noise-reducing measures could also be implemented through changes to the vehicle itself or through special road surfaces. Improving traffic flow and speed limits are other ways to reduce noise levels from road traffic.
The coming weeks will show how much the measures in Draschwitz will affect the situation for the residents and whether it will be possible to improve communication between the responsible authorities and the citizens.
