The political landscape in Saxony-Anhalt is facing a significant upheaval. Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff from the CDU has announced that he will not run again as the top candidate for the state elections on September 6, 2026. The CDU is under pressure to fill around 50 places on the list on the election date in September 2026. There is already criticism of the setup process. Of the first 20 places, only three will be given to women, which has sparked outrage in the party, and not just within women's groups. In the top places are Karin Tschernich-Weiske in tenth place, Anja Schneider in 16th place and Elke Simon-Kuch in 19th place.
