Dessau-Roßlau starts the handball season with a bitter defeat!
The starting signal for the new season of the 2nd Handball Bundesliga was given on August 31, 2025, but for Dessau-Roßlauer HV the start in the away game against VfL Lübeck-Schwartau ended in disappointment. The team led by new head coach Vanja Radić had to admit defeat with 29:33 and unfortunately could not build on the positive feeling from the last test match phase, where they defeated 1. VfL Potsdam with 32:28.
The game in Lübeck turned out to be difficult. Especially in the first half, Dessau showed weak performance at times, which resulted in several goalless minutes. From the 15th to the 23rd minute, the ball remained silent in the net of the Lübeck goal for Dessau. It was a bitter setback when Lübeck turned the game from 9:11 to 13:11. This negative spiral continued after the half-time break: Dessau remained goalless for almost five minutes, which gave Lübeck the opportunity to pull away to 26:21.
Key players and bad decisions
For Dessau, Philipp Ambrosius was a bright spot in goal with 7 saves, but the team could not make up for the missed chances between the 42nd and 48th minutes. Dessau's best thrower was Mika Schuler with 6 goals, followed by David Misovych and Marcel Nowak, who each scored 5 goals. In the final phase, the Dessau team had another chance when Schuler was able to reduce the score to 28:31, but Lübeck didn't let the butter get away from their bread and ultimately secured victory.
Another downfall was the red card for Stefan Neagu, who had to leave the field early due to a third two-minute penalty. The best thrower of the game was Jan-Eric Speckmann from Lübeck with 7 hits.
Outlook for the season
There is also good news for DRHV fans, as the new season tickets for the 2025/26 season were already available in the office from August 14th. A call for support is also aimed at the community who would like to help with livestream productions and are offered friendly trial opportunities in return.
It remains to be seen whether the DRHV can turn things around in the coming games and look back on their last appearance in the league. All information about other games and the current status can be found at kicker.de.
