Saxony-Anhalt protects Jewish life: New security contract signed!
On July 8, 2025, a crucial step for the protection of Jewish life was taken in the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt. The amendment contract for the Security State Treaty between the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the Jewish community was officially signed. This agreement is the result of continuous cooperation and joint efforts to sustainably protect and promote Jewish life in the region. Among the signatories are prominent pioneers of the Jewish community, including Inessa Myslitska, Dr. Alexander Wassermann, Max Privorozki, Larisa Korshevnyuk and Eva Malischewski. On the side of the state of Saxony-Anhalt was Prime Minister Dr. Reiner Haseloff present for signing.
Why is this contract so important? Well, the need for the change in the contract resulted from the construction of new synagogues in Dessau-Roßlau and Magdeburg as well as from the expected cost increases for securing community life. "We have to make sure that our Jewish facilities and your visitors are protected as best as possible," said Haseloff. A central goal of this security contract is to further improve the security of Jewish life in Saxony-Anhalt after the attack in Halle (Saale) on October 9, 2019.
important changes in the contract
The innovations include an extension of the contract term from five to ten years. From 2027, a dynamization of the needs for wax services will also be introduced in order to be able to react flexibly to current challenges. Every year around one million euros are already flowing from the state budget to the Jewish communities, which is an important basis for safety precautions to synagogues and other Jewish institutions.
These changes are part of a broader strategy introduced by Prime Minister Haseloff. He also announced that he improves security measures and establishing a new state program for Jewish life that is also directed against anti -Semitism. A commission will monitor the award of funds to promote security, with representatives of the Jewish community and experts from the Central Council of Jews in Germany.
The relevance for the Jewish community
Max Privorozki, the chairman of the Jewish community in Halle, praised the measures and emphasized how important it was to strengthen the awareness of Jewish life in society. "We have to show that we are here and that Jewish life is an indispensable part of our community," he noted. In times when hatred and prejudices are unfortunately still widespread, the awareness of Jewish issues and promoting a respectful cooperation is particularly important.
In a further step, Prime Minister Haseloff plans a visit to Israel to strengthen relationships and promote exchange. At the same time, a study on the early detection and prevention of anti -Semitism in cooperation with the Berlin Documentation Center is created. These measures show the country's clear commitment to stand up for a diverse and safe coexistence.
The signing of the change agreement is a clear commitment to solidarity with the Jewish community in Saxony-Anhalt, which is not only on paper, but is also visible in concrete deeds and financial means. "Protection of Jewish life is a common task that we have to take as a society," said the unanimous tenor after signing the contract.
