Combating undeclared work and illegal employment is a top priority for the Magdeburg Main Customs Office. In 2024, a total of 5,462 checks were carried out and 199 criminal proceedings were initiated. An important tool in the checks are the employer checks, of which around 25,000 were carried out in 2024. These checks are intended to ensure the proper registration of employees for social security and compliance with working conditions. The Financial Control for Undeclared Work is concerned not only with checking the legal regulations, but also with preventing exploitative employment relationships and ensuring that the minimum wage - which has been raised to 12.82 euros gross per hour since the beginning of 2025 - is adhered to.

The use of undeclared work by customs and financial control shows that compliance with laws and the safety of employees are taken seriously.
