Film Music Days in Halle: AI and music in the focus of the discussion!

The 18th Saxony-Anhalt Film Music Days opened in Halle last weekend. A festival that this year has the exciting theme “Music and Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. Overall, a varied program will be offered until November 8th, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities of digitalization in the music industry. In his opening words, artistic director Manfred Steffen emphasized that many composers' concerns about being replaced by AI are entirely justified. These fears need to be taken seriously while discussing the creative use of technology.

The Film Music Days have offered an important platform for exchange between talent and established players in the industry since they were launched in 2008. In addition to workshops and master classes for young talent, participants can also look forward to a traditional finale: the Staatskapelle gala in the Halle Opera. The highlight of this year's events is the awarding of the German Film Music Prize, which will take place for the twelfth time next Saturday. Hans Peter Ströer, who is known for his work in various music genres, will be awarded the honorary prize.

Diverse events and discussions

The festival has much more to offer than just award ceremonies. An exciting range of public events will include a film music quiz and a gala with classics by John Williams, Miklós Rózsa and Paul McCartney. The silent film series, which has live musical accompaniment, will also attract great attention - including the silent film "Schloss Vogelöd" from 1921.

A central concern of the Film Music Days is not only the presentation of music, but also the discussion about the use of AI in the industry. Topics such as artistic signature, interdisciplinary collaboration and the protection of copyrights and jobs are intensively on the agenda. It turns out that such forums are more urgent than ever in times of digital change.

Festival visitors can expect an exciting program that highlights both the artistic and technological sides of film music and offers space for fruitful discussions about the future of the industry. Anyone who is interested in developments in film music or simply wants to spend a nice evening with live music should not miss the Film Music Days in Halle.
