Halberstadt celebrates DAX settlement: Daimler Truck opens logistics center!
Halberstadt is in a party mood! The city has now brought a real DAX giant on board with Daimler Truck. The company is opening a global central warehouse in the beautiful city, which will bring a breath of fresh air to the region. Mayor Daniel Szarata (CDU) is full of anticipation about the settlement and emphasizes the positive effects on the economy and society. The opening will result in trade taxes flowing into the coffers and numerous jobs will be created, which will also fill the local daycare centers. All of this came together excellently after a pleasantly quick planning process. A first conversation with the country's investment and marketing company took place in December 2021 under the mysterious project name “Nest”. A little later there was an adapted development plan, which was approved by the city administration and the city council in an impressive five months and one day.
But what exactly does the new location bring to Halberstadt? The new building in the East Industrial Park will be a true logistical powerhouse with a gross floor area of around 270,000 square meters. An impressive 260,000 square meters of this is made up of logistics space. From here, Halberstadt becomes the central location for the global spare parts supply for Mercedes-Benz trucks. The parts supply for Fuso in Europe is also handled here. The new logistics center will serve around 20 regional logistics centers around the world, supplying around 3,000 vehicle dealers in over 170 countries. In this way, Halberstadt becomes an important hub in Daimler Truck's global supply chain.
Jobs and sustainability in focus
A major advantage that the city can now enjoy are the up to 450 qualified jobs that will be created by the new logistics center. In addition, there are plans to increase this number to up to 600 jobs in the future. The job offer could represent a real opportunity for the local population and we are excited to see how the labor market situation develops in the coming months.
Another plus is the sustainability of the project. The logistics location is planned from the outset for CO₂-neutral operation. This means that the energy concept completely dispenses with fossil fuels. This is not only a step in the right direction for climate protection, but also a sign that business and the environment can go hand in hand.
In summary, Halberstadt has not only gained a significant investor in Daimler Truck, but has also created a sustainable perspective for the future. We can't wait to see how the local picture will change in the next few years and what positive effects this project will have on citizens. Stay tuned!
