91-year-old pensioner rescued after days in the Harz mountains!
In the idyllic Bad Lauterberg, a small town in the Göttingen district, a dramatic search came to a happy end. A 91-year-old senior woman from the Gifhorn area, Lower Saxony, was found on Saturday, June 14th, after four days of disappearance.
The elderly lady was last seen on Tuesday, June 10th, during her vacation in Bad Lauterberg and did not return to her hotel. The police then asked for help from the public as the woman's disappearance caused great concern. The authorities rated the case as serious, especially since older people need to act particularly quickly, as the [BKA](https://www.bka.de/DE/ UnserAufgabe/Ermittlungsunterstuetzung/BearbeitungVermisstenfaelle/machenVermisstenfaelle.html) generally emphasizes.
Rescuers with quick action
A lucky coincidence finally led to rescue. An attentive resident heard noises coming from a densely overgrown property and went to investigate. He found the elderly woman injured but responsive under thick bushes on a slope of the “Kummel” mountain. The finder immediately contacted the relevant rescue services, which enabled them to act quickly. The operation was quickly supported by the emergency services, the volunteer fire department and the police and the senior citizen was transported to a hospital in Herzberg, where she continues to be cared for.
Local police thanked the woman's finder and highlighted the importance of his quick response. “Without his intervention, the situation could have ended tragically,” said a police spokesman and the Presseportal in their reports.
An insight into missing person cases
In Germany, missing person cases are a serious matter, as can be seen from the BKA's considerations. Adults generally have the right to choose where they live, but this can quickly become a problem for older people. The statistics show that numerous people are reported missing - in 2024 alone there were 18,100 children, of which 96.7% were identified by the end of the year.
The finding of the elderly woman is a positive example that shows how important the commitment of citizens is. It is often the attentive people who can help decisively in difficult situations with a good hand. As the Bad Lauterberg police emphasize, many people are involved in solving such cases, which can potentially save lives.
