Altenbrak: Construction work slows down Waldbühne - visitor numbers at risk!
The Waldbühne Altenbrak is currently experiencing an exciting time while the Harzer Bergtheater is being renovated. How MZ.de reports, the Waldbühne has had a true renaissance in recent years. During this time, numerous plays, musicals, open-air cinemas and concerts took place, which enriched the cultural life in Altenbrak. However, Ronny Große from Bodetal Tourismus GmbH (BTG) is concerned that visitor numbers could decline sharply once the mountain theater reopens.
The city and residents are severely affected by the current situation. Thales Mayor Maik Zedschack emphasizes that the declining number of visitors is not due to the unattractiveness of the pieces on offer. The Theater der Tiefen is currently showing two family plays: “Till Eulenspiegel” until August 13th and “The Jungle Book” until August 16th. However, the major construction work in town has caused some difficulties. The road construction work, which makes Altenbrak appear to be “one single construction site”, is in full swing and, according to ZVO, should be completed by the end of the year.
Impact of the construction work
The construction project is having a serious impact on the number of visitors to the Waldbühne and is leading to a decline in foot traffic for local shops and restaurants. A hotelier from nearby Treseburg reports that the performances of the Thale musical “Walpurga” still have a positive impact on the number of overnight stays, which supports the regional industry.
It is sometimes challenging for hikers and drivers to reach the Waldbühne. The Waldbühne Altenbrak is around ten kilometers away from the Harzer Bergtheater as the crow flies and is easily accessible on foot via the Bodetal hiking trail between Thale and Treseburg. Drivers can park in a large parking lot in the town center, but must note a road closure between Altenbrak and Wendefurth. The recommended route leads from Thale via Treseburg to Altenbrak or with bus line 257 from Blankenburg directly to the “Altenbrak – Brauner Hirsch” stop, from where it is only a seven-minute walk to the Waldbühne Bodetal.de informed.
The importance of tourism
Tourism plays a key role in the economic development of the region. Loud Gate of Nations Tourism not only contributes to job creation, but also improves infrastructure, which in turn benefits local residents. Events like the Waldbühne promote cultural exchange and help support local businesses. Nevertheless, it is important to pursue sustainable practices in tourism to avoid negative impacts such as environmental degradation.
While the Waldbühne has to hold its own during the current construction period, it remains to be hoped that the cultural offerings will continue to bring joy to many visitors in the future. This means that the town of Altenbrak can continue to be a popular destination for tourists and those interested in culture.
