Ballenstedt receives 6.5 million euros for a new health center!
There is exciting news to report in the beautiful Harz region: the former lung clinic in Ballenstedt is being transformed into a modern health center. On August 14, 2025, Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne handed over a grant amounting to 6.5 million euros. These funds come from the state of Saxony-Anhalt and are intended for the structural adjustment of medical care in the region. The commercial director of the Evangelische Stiftung Neinstedt, Stephan Zwick, explained that this project represents an important step towards strengthening the Ballenstedt health region.
The financial support will be used to convert the former hospital buildings. A variety of facilities are planned that will benefit the citizens of Ballenstedt. These include, among other things, a medical care center (MVZ), various health-related businesses and offers for assisted living. The renovations to houses A, B and C are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026 after the Lungeklinik Ballenstedt/Harz GmbH filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and the hospital's operations were discontinued on December 31, 2023.
Conversion and future use of the buildings
The site covers a total area of over 6,000 square meters, which will be used for various services and offers after the renovation. The following are planned in detail:
- Haus A: Gemeinde-MVZ mit mehreren Arztpraxen.
- Haus B: Apotheke, Hospiz, Tagespflege, Tagesförderung, Ärzte und medizinische Dienstleister.
- Haus C: Reaktivierung der Großküche sowie ein angrenzendes Café, das als Kommunikationspunkt dienen soll.
- Obergeschosse des ehemaligen Bettenhauses: Umbau für ein betreutes Wohnen.
- Büroetage im Dachgeschoss: bleibt erhalten.
This project could not only be crucial for health care, but also promote social interaction in the region. A modern and accessible health center not only brings medical professionals back, but also creates a new social meeting place for Ballenstedt residents.
The transformation of this important area should be seen as an example of how bold decisions and investments in the region's health infrastructure can send a positive signal. Citizens can look forward to the implementation of the plans.
