Bad Harzburg treetop path celebrates its anniversary: a magnet for tourists!

In the heart of the Harz, more precisely in Bad Harzburg, there is a lot going on in the area of leisure and tourism. Attractions are offered here that attract both locals and tourists. The treetop path, which was launched ten years ago out of necessity, has once again come into focus. How news38.de reports, Eva Ronkainen-Kolb and her husband Holger Kolb run this popular path and the adjacent tree-top cable car. The success can be seen above all in the impressive number of visitors: around 200,000 people flock to the treetop path every year, although originally only 80,000 visitors were expected.

The tree suspension railway alone has welcomed 350,000 guests since it opened and is a real crowd puller, not least thanks to combination tickets. The number of employees during the season has increased from seven to up to 80 - a clear sign of the flourishing development of tourism in the Harz region.

But those responsible are not resting on their laurels. A spectacular innovation is the planned treetop adventure world, which is scheduled to open in 2027. Investments of 12 million euros and a further 6 million euros from the city of Bad Harzburg are planned. Kolb emphasizes that these new attractions are intended not only to keep visitor numbers in the region, but also to draw holidaymakers beyond Bad Harzburg - a good opportunity for surrounding towns such as Torfhaus and Hahnenklee.

Despite these positive developments, there are also critical voices. Environmental groups are raising concerns about the potential impact of increased tourism on nature. It should be noted that increasing visitor numbers also bring challenges in gastronomy and parking options. Kolb attributes this to the responsible treatment of nature and points to lighthouse projects that not only contribute to securing tourism, but are also intended to benefit nature. Some of the income from the attractions also goes to the state forests.

However, the treetop path in Bad Harzburg is only part of the extensive tourist offer in the Harz. The path stretches over 1,000 meters in length and at a height of over 20 meters and, in addition to impressive views, also offers 50 adventure stations, including a glass walkway and a suspension bridge. Numerous events also take place throughout the year, including readings and concerts, which attract additional visitors.

The Harz travel region includes not only Bad Harzburg, but also the districts of Goslar and Altkreis Osterode as well as the cities of Lamspringe, Duderstadt and Bad Gandersheim. In 2024, almost 1.2 million guests were welcomed to the region, with a total of over 3.7 million overnight stays - that's a remarkable number!

The overnight stay level has achieved pleasing stability at 94% of the 2019 value. Guests from Denmark in particular are giving the region a boost, as almost 120,000 overnight stays are generated by our neighbors.
