Challenge overcome: Günther conquers the Harz in a wheelchair!
The legends and stories of the Harz region fascinate and attract hikers from near and far. Carsten Kiehne, a passionate storyteller from Bad Suderode, has specialized in preserving the region's magical stories and making them tangible. For more than a decade he has been collecting legends, fairy tales and anecdotes, which he has published in over thirty books together with his partner Manuela Petri. Kiehne organizes guided hikes to share the mystical stories of the Harz with its participants. News38 reports that the last of these special hikes took place on March 4th and led to the old Paracelsus Harzklinik in Bad Suderode.
A big highlight of the hike was the participation of Günther, an older gentleman who sits in an electric wheelchair. Despite the steep climb to the clinic and the three-hour tour, he was determined to accompany the group. Kiehne initially had concerns about whether Günther would be able to keep up with his wheelchair, but the hikers actively supported him and pushed him backwards up the mountain. This support was achieved despite the difficulties, and when he reached the top, Günther was happy - he described the hike as the highlight of his hospital stay. Kiehne himself also praised the tour as one of the most beautiful experiences of his 14-year career, during which he conducted over 1,500 storytelling events and hiking tours. N-AG describes the group's support as exemplary and shows how the Harz is made accessible to everyone, including people with special needs.
Myths and nature
The Harz is not only known for its legends, but also for its impressive natural experiences. The nature myth trail near Braunlage offers forest visitors the opportunity to explore the relationship between humans and nature through nine hands-on stations. Each station invites you to pause and reflect while exploring topics such as the symbolic power of trees and the relationship between wolves and humans. The wishing tree, which allows hikers to formulate their inner wishes, and the labyrinth, which opens a path to themselves, are just some of the highlights of this route. Nationalpark-Harz emphasizes that myths are part of humanity's oldest cultural heritage and offer valuable insight into human thoughts and feelings.
Overall, Carsten Kiehne and his events help ensure that the fascinating stories of the Harz region are not forgotten. The Harz is a place known not only for its natural beauty, but also for the stories that shape its landscape. This means it remains an attraction for hikers of all ages and backgrounds who are ready to immerse themselves in the world of myths and legends.
