District Harz secures Brockenkuppe for 3.5 million euros!

A big step for tourism in the Harz: On June 12, 2025, the Harz district acquired the Brockenkuppe and its striking buildings for a proud 3.5 million euros. The purchase contract was signed on Thursday, and the transfer of the real estate will take place on July 1, 2025, as reported by the Goslarsche Zeitung . The district thus sets the course for a tourist redesign of the highest mountain in northern Germany.

The bought areas include two plots with a total of 12,937 square meters, on which there are, among other things, the well -known Brockenturm, the tourist hall and a weather house. District Administrator Thomas Balcerowski describes this purchase as a "historical moment" and sees the planned investments the opportunity to significantly increase the offer and quality on the Brockenplatau.

plans for the future

The highlights of the planned measures include a new multi -purpose hall that is supposed to offer flexible uses for up to 500 people - ideal for theater performances and conferences. In addition, the redesign of the three -storey HeineSaals for tourist purposes is planned, accompanied by a new reception building that is supposed to create barrier -free access to the multi -purpose hall. The accessibility of the Brocken remains a challenge, since the mountain is only accessible by the Brockenbahn, on foot or by bike.

"We expect not only an increase in the number of guests, but also more passengers for the Brockenbahn," said Balcerowski. A particularly gratifying aspect: the measures should secure around 250 jobs at Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH.

sustainability in tourism

Not only the development of the brocken is the focus. The resin as a tourist destination also acts in the sense of sustainability. A lecture that dealt with the challenges of administrative structure in the Harz lifted the importance of soft and slow tourism that promote gentle leisure activities such as hiking and nature observation. The aim is to reduce the CO₂ footprint through sustainable mobility solutions and to establish the region as an environmentally conscious travel destination, such as the National Park Harz emphasized.

The climate consequences are also noticeable in the Harz: The decline in the snow days is impressively documented by the numbers: from 28.7 days in the period 1961-1990 to only 17.7 days between 1990 and 2019. These developments are demanding a rethink in tourism and the industry plays a key role in reaching the climate goals according to the EU Green Deal.

In summary, it can be said: The Brockenkuppe not only buys into the history of the region, but also into its future. With far -sighted investments and a clear commitment to sustainability, the Harz could establish itself as an attractive goal in environmentally conscious tourism.
