Yesterday, on July 1, 2025, the Harz police station, together with the city of Wernigerode, invited people to a predestined prevention day. The event was aimed specifically at seniors, but also at anyone interested in staying safer and more mobile in everyday life. Under the motto “We want you to stay safely mobile!” The event took place in the gym on Kohlgartenstrasse and offered visitors a pleasant and summery atmosphere.

The program was well-filled with practical activities and information stands aimed at giving older citizens greater security and independence in everyday life. Whether it was about traffic and crime prevention tips, first aid or digital security - there was something for everyone here. The hands-on stations, which were not only informative but also entertaining, were particularly popular.

Diverse offers and attractions

The highlights of the day included a walker course run by the district traffic patrol and free hearing and vision tests. The traffic awareness trainer, which simulates dangerous traffic situations from the perspective of a cyclist, was also very popular. Mayor Tobias Kascha himself took part in a test drive with the traffic awareness trainer, showing that the city's leaders are also aware of the concerns of the older generation.

The Federal Ministry of Transport highlights that the vulnerability of this age group increases as cognitive and motor skills change with age.

Education and awareness of the dangers in road traffic are therefore essential. Younger road users should also learn to be more mindful of older people.
