Certainly mobile: Prevention day for seniors ensures positive response!

Kohlgartenstraße, Wernigerode, Deutschland - yesterday, on July 1, 2025, the police station Harz and the city of Wernigerode invited to a predestined prevention day. The event was aimed specifically at senior citizens, but also to all interested parties who want to remain safer and more mobile in everyday life. Under the motto "We want you to stay mobile!" the event took place in the gymnasium of Kohlgartenstraße and offered visitors a pleasant and summer atmosphere.

The program was well filled with practical actions and information stands that aimed to enable older citizens to give more security and independence in everyday life. Whether it was about traffic and crime-preventive information, first aid or digital security- there was something for everyone. The hands -on stations that were not only informative, but also entertaining.

The highlights of the day included a rollerator course of the roundabout guard as well as free listening and eye tests. The traffic training trainer, who simulates dangerous traffic situations from the perspective of a cyclist, was also very popular. Mayor Tobias Kascha himself took part in a test drive with the traffic training trainer and showed that the city leaders are also sensitized to the concerns of the older generation.

The response to the various information offers was consistently positive. The visitors felt well informed and safer in their daily life. The event aimed to convey practical tips for more security and quality of life in everyday life. The concept turned out to be successful and the organizers are already planning a sequel in the coming year.

Security in road traffic: an important topic

Especially in the context of the older generation, the topic of traffic safety is of great importance. A current study shows that in 2023 over 59 percent of the fatally crashed cycling and pedestrians were at least 65 years old. These terrifying numbers illustrate the endangerment of older people in road traffic. The Federal Ministry of Transport emphasizes that the vulnerability of this age group increases through changes in cognitive and motor skills in old age.

The Enlightenment and raising awareness of dangers in road traffic are therefore essential. Younger road users should also learn to be more careful with older people. The "stay mobile, but sure!" Concept includes various offers such as traffic safety days and free seminars that help older people to preserve their mobility and at the same time increase their security.
