Reopening: Harzer Bergtheater delights with Walpurga musical!

The Harzer Bergtheater in Thale is now ready to welcome visitors with a fresh, modern look and exciting performances. After five years of intensive renovation work, which cost a total of around 27.5 million euros, the natural stage now stands in new splendor. Capacity has been increased to an impressive 1,903 seats, and barrier-free access ensures that everyone can feel comfortable in the theater. This is good news for all theater lovers and those who want to become one!

The traditional house, which has been one of the oldest natural theaters in Germany since it was founded in 1903, not only has a long history, but also a price increase in emotions behind it. After catastrophic destruction in post-war Germany, the Bergtheater was renovated several times in the 1960s and 1990s, but the most recent renovations are now leading to an exciting leap into the future. ARD media library reports that the grand reopening is planned for May 2025.

A musical for new times

The new musical “Walpurga”, which will be the first major performance after the renovation, will receive particular attention. The story deals with regional myths and tells of the Walpurga's escape from witch hunters. Director Ronny Große describes the modernization of event technology as a step into a new era. The new stage, equipped with the latest LED technology, enables completely different dimensions in the presentation. With this realignment, those responsible have shown a good hand - the Harzer Bergtheater not only wants to appeal to its traditional audience, but also to attract new audiences.

The role of Walpurga will be taken on by the talented Senta-Sofia Delliponti, who has already received several awards for her acting achievements. She receives support from the well-known musical legend Angelika Milster, who is also part of the ensemble. Together with actors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, there will be a top-class ensemble that will take viewers on a journey through intrigue, power struggles and love.

Versatile program and fantastic scenery

But the Harz Mountain Theater has even more to offer: In addition to the exciting musical, there are also classic family plays such as “Beauty and the Beast” and “Pippi Longstocking”. Visitors can also look forward to a varied music program – from pop to rock to folk music. This variety not only enriches the offering, but also ensures that there is something for every taste.

A visit to the Harz Mountain Theater becomes a real experience thanks to the magnificent panoramic view of the Harz foothills during the performances. The combination of history and modern touches creates a unique atmosphere that is welcoming to both locals and tourists. MDR highlights that the renovation has not only redesigned the theater but also strengthened its role as a cultural center of the region.

Overall, the Harzer Bergtheater presents itself as a meeting place that harmoniously combines tradition and modernity. The starting signal for the season will soon be given, and the anticipation for the program could hardly be greater - there is actually something coming up. Whether for culture enthusiasts or families, everyone will find what they are looking for here and experience unforgettable evenings in the picturesque Thale.
