Chaos on the streets: Terrible accidents and a major fire shake the castle!
A new incident occurred on July 16, 2025 in Möser OT Lostau, which tragically shows the dangers of road traffic. An 85-year-old man, who was driving his Skoda car, left the road slightly on Lindenstrasse. In a moment of carelessness, he counter-steered and crossed into the oncoming lane, where he eventually veered off the road to the left and collided with a tree. Both the driver and the passenger were injured in the accident and had to be taken to hospital. The material damage to the vehicle and the tree is significant, as Magdeburg klickt reports.
On the same day, the fire brigade in Burg had to respond to a fire in a larger garage on Ossietzkystrasse. At 5:16 a.m., the alarm went in and 21 comrades moved out in five vehicles. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the exact damage is currently unknown. The police have launched an investigation and the criminal investigation department is taking over further investigations.
Wildlife accidents: A constant problem
Another not unusual traffic incident occurred in Schermen, where a 44-year-old driver was involved in an accident with wild animals in his Peugeot car. A deer crossed the road and a collision occurred, which unfortunately cost the animal its life. The material damage to the vehicle is also likely to be significant. According to current statistics, as recorded by Destatis, there is an accident with wildlife every two minutes in Germany. Around 265,000 such incidents were reported in 2022. Over a million wild animals die every year from collisions with vehicles.
There is a high risk of accidents involving wildlife, particularly in the evening and early morning hours. Drivers should always drive with foresight and pay attention to possible wildlife crossings. The good news: Comprehensive insurance covers damage caused by collisions with furred game. Nevertheless, experts recommend increased caution, especially in the typical danger spots in forest areas or on the edges of fields, as wild animals often cross the roads.
A day for safety on two wheels
On July 22, 2025, a day of action under the motto “The Safe Bicycle” will take place in Burg. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. there will be an LKA information bus on the subject of theft protection for bicycles as well as various offers on bicycle coding and checking road safety at Gummersbacher Platz. The Jerichower Land traffic police are also taking part in this important initiative. Visitors can also get advice on burglary protection, which is particularly important in urban areas.
The fire brigade and police are actively involved in ensuring safety on the roads, both for drivers and cyclists. Such events are clearly a step in the right direction to raise awareness of road safety.
