Ferry Ferchland-Grieben: New cooperation secures the future until 2031!
Jerichower Land, Deutschland - The future of the ferry between Ferchland and Grieben is now secured until December 31, 2031. On June 19, 2025, a new cooperation agreement was signed, which aims at increased financial participation of all partners. This decision is particularly important because an increasing deficit is predicted. So far, the local transport company Jerichower Land MBH (NJL) has received 15,000 euros annually from the counties, with Jerichow, Elbe-Parey, Tangermhütte and Tangermünde each provided 9,000 euros. However, the district of Jerichower Land has increased its support to 30,000 euros, while the district of Stendal decides on the grant annually. This increase has already been confirmed for 2025.
The commitment of the other cooperation partners is particularly gratifying, whose grant is also increased to 15,000 euros. Although the collaboration with the city of Tangermünde is still open - a final council decision is still pending - the city of Genthin shows interest in participation. District Administrator Steffen Burchhardt hobbles the project in his community and highlights the importance of the ferry for the connection between Altmark and Jerichower Land. District Administrator Patrick Puhlmann also emphasizes the in -depth cooperation between the counties, which is very important for the region.
economic measures
In order to further improve the economy of the ferry, some measures are being planned. For example, driving prices will be adjusted in April 2025, which often meets with lack of understanding among passengers, but is usually accepted due to the lack of alternatives. Advertising measures, such as the attachment of sponsorship advertising boards on the ferry, are also intended to contribute to generation of additional income. In addition, the NJL offers a daily inspection on its own website for ferry operation, which creates more transparency and information for users.
A sign concept was installed as an additional measure to improve the findability of the investor. The ferry itself has been managed by the NJL since May 2021 after the connection was discontinued in September 2020 for economic reasons. Since August 2022, the ferry has been in daily operation after a comprehensive maintenance and establishes the important connection between Jerichower Land and Stendal.
regional cooperation and challenges
In view of the tense financial situation of many transport companies, which is characterized by increasing costs for personnel and infrastructure, this agreement is a small ray of hope. In Germany, there is an increase in driving prices in many transport associations, which often meets with lack of understanding among passengers. The results of an analysis of local public transport (public transport) suggest that reform needs in the financing structure of public transport is urgently necessary to ensure the future of mobility and to enable long -term plans. Future Mobility shows that creative forms of financing such as a citizens' ticket, development contributions or a local transport should be taken into account. All in all, the signing of this new cooperation agreement is a sign of hope and a good hand for the future of ferry operations in the region. It remains exciting to observe how the cooperation between the counties develops and whether other cities will join the cooperation. For the region, this connection is more than just a means of transport - it is an essential part of regional identity and mobility.
