Heart health in focus: Successful day of action inspires Burg!
A remarkable Heart Health Day was celebrated in Burg on June 22, 2025, organized by the Health Promotion Department under the leadership of Ms. Besecke. The event attracted numerous visitors and provided important information about the health risks of smoking, particularly for the cardiovascular system. Dr. Tom Giesler, the medical director of the Helios Clinic Jerichower Land and chief physician of the cardiology clinic, was actively involved in this event to make visitors aware of the dangers of nicotine consumption. The day not only served to educate, but also to promote prevention and healthy lifestyles.
Special cooperation partners such as the German Heart Foundation, AOK, DAK, IKK, TK, DRK, the Roland Pharmacy and the Jerichower Land Addiction Prevention Center supported the event. The day was peppered with participation and information activities that were very popular. Interactive stands impressively demonstrated how nicotine consumption damages the vascular system, increases blood pressure and significantly increases the risk of heart attacks.
Heart health in focus
A central concern of the event was to educate young people about the consequences of smoking at an early stage. The dangerous side effects of smoking, which put a strain on the cardiovascular system, are particularly problematic. According to studies by the Robert Koch Institute, smoking and related diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and cancer, are the most common causes of premature mortality in industrialized nations ( RKI ). In Germany, around 127,000 people die every year as a result of smoking, which underlines the urgency of such events.
The main topic also included the dangers of vaping e-cigarettes and consuming cannabis. Young people are particularly at risk because nicotine is quickly addictive. Information about the negative effects of nicotine on the development of children and young people was clearly conveyed by the Addiction Prevention Center. Diana Grothe and Jan Eiglmeier were available to visitors for personal discussions and offered support with consumption problems.
Make a strong statement
Heart Health Day was not only a highlight for the city of Burg, but also a strong sign of the importance of prevention, education and self-determined health decisions. Celebrity guests such as Dr. Steffen Burchhardt, district administrator of Jerichower Land, and Petra Grimm-Benne, the health minister of Saxony-Anhalt, were also committed and emphasized the relevance of such prevention offers.
In addition to smoking, healthy eating, stress management and exercise were covered as significant topics. With a varied program, the approximately 127,000 people in Germany who die every year as a result of smoking were not only remembered, but also actively counteracted. Because prevention begins with education, and Heart Health Day has impressively achieved this important step.
In Burg, important awareness was created about the dangers of smoking and the importance of heart health was brought into focus, which not only benefits visitors but the entire community.
