Jerichower Land: City Cycling 2025 – Dretzel Firefighters on the podium!

Cycling for a good climate – this has proven itself again in Jerichower Land! The 2025 City Cycling Campaign, which took place from August 28th to September 17th, attracted over 84 teams with more than 700 active cyclists. Together, the participants covered an incredible 159,000 kilometers, which is an increase of around 7,000 kilometers compared to the previous year. This impressive performance resulted in a CO2 saving of around 26,000 kilograms, underlining the relevance of cycling as an environmentally friendly mobility option. Volksstimme reports that the city of Jerichow took first place with a strong team of 69 cyclists and cycled over 18,000 kilometers.

The Volksbank Jerichower Land team, last year's winners, secured second place with more than 13,700 kilometers covered. The Dretzel fire department came in third place with over 10,000 kilometers, after a correction to the first evaluation. The municipality of Biedeitz was also not out of line with over 11,000 kilometers and took fourth place. The award ceremony will take place on October 2, 2025 on the district administration grounds in Burg, where the best teams, the most committed individual cyclists and the team with the highest average performance will be honored.

A clear sign of sustainable mobility

The annual statistics show not only the high number of participants, but also the committed participation in the total of 12,011 trips. With a common goal of actively supporting climate protection, such events motivate people to integrate cycling into their everyday lives as an environmentally friendly means of transport. The focus is not only on the fitness of the participants, but above all on raising awareness of climate-friendly means of transport. The initiative is seen as an important component for promoting cycling in Jerichower Land and beyond, as is the case LKJL confirmed.

The study by the Fraunhofer Institute, which was carried out on behalf of the ADFC cycling club, also shows that Germany has the potential to triple the proportion of bicycle traffic on paths up to 30 kilometers long by 2035. A reduction in traffic emissions by 34 percent is possible if appropriate measures such as the expansion of cycle paths and good connections to public transport are implemented. This vision of a “Bicycle Country Germany 2030” is also reflected in the increasing popularity of cycling. Mobility Forum highlights that the right infrastructure and good connectivity are crucial to making the bicycle an everyday vehicle.

In conclusion, it can be said that the results of the city cycling campaign do not just represent a sporting competition, but rather represent a sign of a change in mobility. With every kilometer that is covered in the saddle, the participants make an active contribution to climate protection and show that cycling is more than just exercise - it is a way of life!
