Demolition of the Damaschkeplatz Bridge in Magdeburg: A step into the future!

Magdeburg is currently in a state of upheaval - but not because of upcoming festivals or events, but because of the noise from construction sites around Damaschkeplatz. On Monday, June 16, 2025, demolition work began on the dilapidated bridge, which had been closed to traffic since April due to significant damage. On the night of Thursday, June 19th, the complete demolition of the ring bridge was completed. This work was carried out on time after the procurement committee awarded the contract on June 4th, reports MDR.

During the demolition work, the city relied on transparency and installed webcams to be able to document the progress of the work. Loud People's voice The costly measure, which costs a total of around 564,000 euros, is made possible by the calm approach on the eastern side - so tram traffic on the western side remains undisturbed. The dismantling of the fall bed, which serves as protection for the roads and utilities below, is scheduled to be completed by June 28th.

Planning the temporary bridge

After the demolition, we continue with the plans for the temporary bridges. From June 23rd, preparations will begin for the assembly of the single-lane structures, which will enable traffic in both directions from August 1st. The planned steel structures have a width of 3.50 meters and a total length of around 70 meters. This was also done by the Day24 confirmed.

In order to get traffic on the Magdeburger Ring running again as quickly as possible, work on the temporary bridges should also be carried out at night. Traffic flows could be flowing again by mid-July, and there is a good chance that the city will soon return to its usual order.

Noise pollution and patience of citizens

The city appeals to citizens' patience, as the demolition work and the subsequent assembly of the temporary bridges will involve a certain amount of noise pollution. It is also noted that the closures could potentially subsequently impact other construction projects and traffic flows in the city. But what aren't we doing to improve the infrastructure? Preparations for a permanent replacement building are already underway in parallel, so that Damaschkeplatz can soon be crossed again without detours.
