The operetta classic “Clivia” can now be seen at the Magdeburg Theater. This production, based on the music of Nico Dostal, not only offers a nostalgic look back, but also attaches great importance to a contemporary implementation. The experienced one leads musically Kai Tietje the ensemble. A new arrangement of the music was specially created, developed together with director Julien Chavaz and dramaturg Christoph Clausen.
The operetta is presented in three acts and has been reworked with the original libretto by Charles Amberg in a version that is based on the 2014 revision by the Komische Oper Berlin. “Clivia” deals with themes such as secret conspiracies and clichés and is set in the fictional state of Boliguay. The plot revolves around characters such as a financial tycoon, a Hollywood movie star and even a president in disguise.
A project with many talents
The extensive participation of many talents makes this production particularly exciting. In addition to the musical direction of Paweł Popławski The Ballet Theater Magdeburg and the Magdeburg Philharmonic are also on stage. Mariia Bokovnia is responsible for the scene design, while Jean-Jacques Delmotte designed the costumes. The choreography is by Daniel Ojeda Yrureta and the lighting design by Eloi Gianini.
Actors such as Andreas Bongard, Carmen Steinert and some talented young talent shape the performance and ensure that the audience can completely immerse themselves in the imaginative world of operetta. “Clivia” is recommended for ages 10 and up and proves that classical music and modern stories go wonderfully together.

If you don’t want to miss “Clivia”, there are plenty of opportunities to do so. The next performances are scheduled for November 22nd and 30th, 2025 and December 20th and 31st, 2025. The operetta will be performed again next year, on January 31st and February 6th and 21st, 2026.
