Burglary in Stendal: Police rescue a pensioner's stolen property!

In Stendal, on the night of July 11th to 12th, a 70-year-old man's garden was broken into. Unknown perpetrators forcibly gained access to the property on the north wall and stole various items. However, the police were able to find the stolen goods nearby, so that the garden owner got his things back. A criminal case has been initiated and the damage is estimated to be in the low three-digit range. How Magdeburg clicks reported, burglary is a serious crime that is punished according to Section 243 of the Criminal Code.

But what does this mean for the safety of citizens? A burglary can have serious consequences and the law provides for high penalties. In the case of a burglary, prison sentences range from three months to ten years, depending on the severity of the crime. The risk of a break-in is significantly increased, particularly in urban areas. According to current statistics from Meine Tools, the number of burglaries in Germany increased by 25% in 2025 compared to 2020, with over 100,000 burglaries in major cities.

Security in your own home

How can you protect yourself from break-ins? Alarm systems and security locks are a good measure, but they do not offer 100% protection. Experts recommend taking safety precautions and learning about the latest technologies. Innovative solutions such as AI-powered alarm systems can prevent break-ins before they happen in 80% of cases. Community-based security systems are also proven to increase a sense of security in neighborhoods, while architectural designs can reduce break-ins by up to 30%.

Anyone who nevertheless falls victim to a burglary should act quickly: the police must be informed immediately and the apartment should not be entered until the officers arrive. A list of stolen items and relevant documents are important in order to make a claim with the insurance company. Insurance usually covers damage caused by burglary, but only if there is no negligence, such as leaving windows or doors open.

Further reports from the region

In addition to the break-in, other incidents occurred in the region on July 12th. There was a traffic accident in Lüderitz in which a 35-year-old driver collided with another vehicle while driving onto the L30, whose driver had given way to him. Luckily there was only property damage but no injuries.

The fire department was also called to a basement fire in Tangermünde. Residents reported heavy smoke and the fire department was able to quickly bring the fire under control. Fortunately, all residents of the apartment building remained uninjured.

In addition, the police reported about an alcohol driver in Havelberg who was caught driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.64. Their efforts show how important it is to monitor road traffic to ensure safety for all road users.
