FC Magdeburg celebrates home win! On to the DFB Cup challenge!

The euphoria at FC Magdeburg is noticeable again! After a strong 2-0 win against Preußen Münster, the team celebrated their first home win of the season, which not only gave them a boost, but also secured their place in the non-relegation places. Interim coach Petrik Sander and assistant coach Pascal Ibold have brought a breath of fresh air into the team. How kicker reported, Sander particularly praised the team's fitness and commitment. The players prepared well for the game and showed great teamwork.

A pleasing aspect of the victory was the fact that after five competitive games without scoring, the team now kept a clean sheet for the second time in a row. Sander emphasized that every player must take responsibility, which is reflected in the unified team performance. However, the squad will remain largely unchanged for the upcoming cup game against FV Illertissen on October 29th at 6 p.m. “The game is too important to make big changes,” said Sander. FC Magdeburg is aiming to reach the round of 16 of the DFB Cup, which would come with a hefty prize money of 847,544 euros.

Cup dreams and injury worries

The game against Illertissen will be important, especially after last year's disappointing performance when Magdeburg was eliminated in the first round by Kickers Offenbach. It is now all the more important to confirm our form and move one step further in the cup. FV Illertissen, who won against second division team Nuremberg in the first round, will do everything they can to annoy Magdeburg.

As positive as the situation looks, there are also challenges. Defender Jean Hugonet had to leave the field early in the game against Münster due to a knee injury. An MRI scan will show how serious the injury actually is. “We have to wait and see what the investigation brings,” explained Sander, who is also preparing for the possibility of having to adjust the defensive line.

An exciting environment

The DFB Cup is considered one of the most exciting competitions in German football and always brings surprises. The participation of clubs from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga as well as the best teams from the 3rd league makes the tournament special. The cup finals of the 2024/2025 season took place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium in May 2025, with VfB Stuttgart winning in the men's final and Bayern in the women's final. FC Magdeburg also wants to shine in this tradition and continue its path to the new heights of the cup. Who knows, maybe you can pull off a big hit and play in the Olympic Stadium in the next round?

It remains exciting to see how the situation at FC Magdeburg develops. Until the next game against FV Illertissen, the entire football community will be watching Magdeburg with a spell.
