FCM welcomes Paderborn: Can Magdeburg finally win?

A thrilling duel is coming up: On Sunday, November 9th, 2025, 1. FC Magdeburg will welcome SC Paderborn in the Avnet Arena. Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m. Both teams are currently presenting themselves in different forms, which makes the duel all the more exciting. The focus is particularly on the new coach of SC Paderborn, Ralf Kettemann, who is starting his mission after the departure of Lukas Kwasniok.

Kettemann brings a breath of fresh air after coaching the Karlsruher SC U19s. His team's start to the season is impressive: Paderborn got four points in the first two games against Kiel and Münster. But the first setback came on the third matchday with a defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf (1:2). Since then, however, Paderborn have enjoyed a remarkable run, remaining unbeaten in their last eight games - including seven wins in a row. This gave the team a record start in the second division with a whopping 26 points after eleven match days.

Strong scorers and robust defense

Filip Bilbija stands out in the top scorers list, having already scored eight goals this season and scoring continuously in the last six league games. Paderborn's defense is also strong: with only ten goals conceded, they are at the top of the league, just behind Schalke 04, who only allowed seven goals.

The duel between these two teams has always promised excitement in the past. In fact, 1. FC Magdeburg has not won against Paderborn since September 2017, with seven of the last nine meetings ending in a draw and Paderborn celebrating two wins. This will be a big challenge for Magdeburg, especially since they are currently in last place in the table.

Spectators and weather forecast

The number of spectators for the eagerly awaited game is estimated at 20,700, including around 490 fans from Paderborn. The weather on match day was very cloudy at 10 degrees Celsius, which speaks for a typical November day. For everyone who cannot watch the game in the stadium, Sky Bundesliga and the SkyGo and WOW platforms offer a broadcast. There is also a live ticker and the FCM fan radio in the FCM app for fans who want to follow the action from a distance.

Magdeburg will be without several players, including Samuel Loric, Jean Hugonet and Mateusz Zukowski, as well as Tobias Müller and Baris Atik, who are suspended due to a fifth yellow card. Paderborn coach Kettemann expressed his respect for the team from Magdeburg, despite their current position in the table.

For anyone who doesn't have tickets yet: These are available online and at the box office. And with the hashtag#FCMSCPFans can share their anticipation of the game on social media. 1. FC Magdeburg will do everything in its power to finally prevail against Paderborn again - an exciting football game is guaranteed!
