Fiedler takes over FCM: This is how he wants to inspire the fans!
With a breath of fresh air and new ideas, Markus Fiedler took over the reins as head coach of 1. FC Magdeburg on June 23, 2025. The first training session took place on Monday afternoon and the mood was consistently positive. Fiedler, who previously coached VfB Stuttgart II and secured relegation in the 3rd league, would like to continue last year's successful offensive. The 39-year-old coach has already set himself clear goals to keep the club at a high level.
There wasn't much talking during the first session; Instead, Fiedler left the floor to his assistants. His main focus now is on getting to know the players and, above all, acting as an observer to get a proper picture of his new team. As he himself emphasizes, he has big plans: “I want to dominate the game and inspire the spectators.” Fiedler relies on quick pressing and targeted possession of the ball in order to ensure exciting encounters in the future. It didn't take long for the fans in Magdeburg to become interested, and their enthusiasm was a decisive factor in Fiedler's move to FCM, as [Bild] reports.
Together into the future
The new coach is optimistic that the support of the fans can make the difference. “I dream of sold-out games,” said Fiedler. Even though he appreciates the achievements of his predecessors and sees parallels to the previous playing style, he still wants to leave his own mark. His goal is clear: to take the team to the next level and make the FCM competitive in the upcoming season.
Born on February 6, 1986 in Leonberg, Baden-Württemberg, Fiedler has an impressive career. He began his career at SGV Freiberg before moving to TSG Hoffenheim as an assistant coach in 2014. In 2015 he completed his final exams at the Ludwigsburg University of Education, followed by various coaching positions that ultimately led him to VfB Stuttgart. There he celebrated great success with the U-15 team before taking responsibility for the second team in the summer of 2023 and even winning the championship in the Regionalliga Südwest in the first season. At [1. FC Magdeburg], Fiedler was seen as the ideal choice for the coaching position, and managing director Sport Otmar Schork spoke positively about him.
A long tradition
1. FC Magdeburg looks back on an eventful history that was shaped by many well-known coaches. The club icon Heinz Krügel, who won the European Cup in 1974, is still a lasting legacy today. His long term in office is credited with numerous successes, which does not reduce the expectations of Fiedler, but at the same time gives him a clear path. In recent years, various coaches such as Jens Härtel and Christian Titz have been in charge, which has had a big impact on the club today, but Fiedler could now take the next big step in the club's history.
His first test as FCM coach is on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when the team takes on Burger BC. Now it remains to be seen whether Fiedler can fill the big shoes of his predecessors and whether his ideas will inspire the spectators in the stadium. An exciting path for the FCM that is only just beginning. The club and its fans hope for many unforgettable moments in the coming season and are excited to see what the coming weeks will bring.
