Fiete from Tornesch: Germany's fastest dachshund conquers Magdeburg!
A very special spectacle took place in the heart of Magdeburg on June 30, 2025: the first German Championships in Dachshund Racing. In a colorful group of 220 participants, the little dogs jumped with all their might onto the 40 meter long race track. Among the many disgruntled spectators who were hoping for their little darlings was one of the clear favorites: Fiete from Tornesch in the Pinneberg district. The agile dachshund secured the title of the fastest dachshund in Germany with an impressive running time of 5.6 seconds.
But not everything went smoothly in the deciding race: in order to choose a clear winner, the final had to be held twice. With a lot of skill and the use of whistles, squeaky balls or small treats, the fast dachshund was finally lured to the finish line. In addition to Fiete, there were also successful participants in the rabbit and miniature dachshund category, led by Frieda from Ludwigsfelde, Brandenburg.
Race conditions and prizes
The special conditions for a successful race were clear: forty meters of lanes separated by small fences had to be covered. Each dog was accompanied by two people - one at the start and one at the finish area to motivate the little sprinter. The qualifying heats for the championships took place on June 28, 2025, followed by semi-finals and the grand final the following day, June 29, 2025.
The best three dogs in each category were awarded, and the big highlight was the honorary award for the Dachshund King or Queen: two nights in Regensburg for two people and one dachshund, including entry to the Dachshund Museum with a personal tour. Each dog also received a participation certificate and a little surprise – what a big day for the little athletes!
Small dog races and other events
Parallel to the dachshund races, the first Magdeburg small dog race for dachshund mixes and other small dog breeds up to 39 cm shoulder height took place. Depending on the number of participants, a separate process is provided, which made the day even more exciting for all dog lovers.
The energy and anticipation concentrated at these events has certainly ensured that dachshund racing now has a high priority in the leisure activities of many dog lovers. This is also proven by reports like the one from NDR, which talks about the great atmosphere and the special experience that both people and animals were able to experience in Magdeburg.
The Dachshunds have once again shown that they can be true sprinters - and Fiete has firmly established his place in Dachshund history. It remains to be seen what exciting stories the next championships will have to offer!
