Magdeburg, Deutschland - On July 15, 2025, the starting signal for the Med-4 science academy Faculty of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. A Highlight of the program is the Polycarp Leporin program (PLP), which supports up to 80,000 euros for individual research projects. This option opens up valuable financial resources for the participants to implement their ideas. In addition, the medical faculty awards two research prices in the categories "clinical research" and "basic biomedical research" every year. This year the awards, which are each endowed with 7,500 euros, were to Dr. Tobias Ronny Haage and Dr. Lorena Morton, who were able to distinguish themselves in their respective specialist areas.

Another building block is the project clinical studies and exams at the Medical Faculty (KSMed), which will be promoted by the end of 2027 by promoting 5.36 million euros from the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDRE). This is primarily about improving the framework conditions for clinical studies, which is an essential prerequisite for medical research.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has promoted over 130 clinical studies in recent years that have particularly high relevance for the health system. The initiative is part of the national decade against cancer, which aims to compare various strategies for prevention and therapy for cancer. The treatment of common diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases is also specifically supported.
