Magdeburg's train station: new plants and seating for more green!
In the beautiful city of Magdeburg, the area around the station is upgraded by an exciting redesign. The focus is on the new planting troughs and seating, which ensure more green and quality of stay. Five small troughs that do without a seat are set up both east and west of Brandenburger Straße. At the corner of Willy-Brandt-Platz/Ernst-Reuter-Allee, two small and two large troughs can be expected with a seat. This is part of a comprehensive project that is realized as part of the second expansion stage of the Magdeburg railway node, with an order volume of around 327,000 euros intended, such as [MeetingPoint Magdeburg] (https://www.meetingpoint-magdburg.de/neuke/artikel/201074-magdurg-neue-plants- und-Sitzengegegenungen-rund-den-Bahnhof) reported.
The first plantings have already been carried out, and the first two planting troughs will be installed in the western area in the coming week. Two weeks later, seven more troughs are to follow. The entire system is expected to be completed from August 11, 2025. Foundations are also excavated on Willy-Brandt-Platz to create a solid basis for the new greening.
from corten steel to planting
Particular attention is paid to the materials used. The troughs made of corten steel, a material known for its durability and characteristic rust patina, not only create an appealing picture, but are also extremely easy to care for. They are robust and are ideal for use outdoors, since they can be used outdoors all year round. In addition, the troughs are completely recyclable and environmentally friendly, such as metal in the garden emphasized.
The dimensions of the troughs are also remarkable: small troughs measure 7.5 x 3 meters, while the large troughs impress with 11.25 x 4.5 meters. These troughs are manufactured and delivered directly by constructive Glas- und Metallbau Zerbst GmbH. Small troughs come in one piece, while the large ones are delivered in individual parts and are welded together on site.
entrance area with flair
This creates an inviting space that is not only planted with trees and shrubs, but is also enriched with perennials and grass. Small equipment elements such as bollards and trash cans are added to further increase the quality of stay. Bankings compared to Cologne Square and on the tangent exit round off the redesign that comprises the entire area of the tunnel.
For all those who want to design their own green areas, the Stahlgarten offers a wide selection of plant troughs made of Cortenstahl. Regardless of whether for private gardens, terraces or public facilities - the robust troughs bring freshness to the surrounding area and encourage gardening.
