Magdeburg's train station: New plants and seating for more green!
In the beautiful city of Magdeburg, the area surrounding the train station is being enhanced by an exciting redesign. The focus is on the new plant troughs and seating, which ensure more greenery and quality of stay. Five small troughs, which do not have a seat, will be placed both east and west of Brandenburger Strasse. At the corner of Willy-Brandt-Platz and Ernst-Reuter-Allee you can even expect two small and two large troughs with seating. This is part of a comprehensive project that is being implemented as part of the second expansion stage of Magdeburg's railway hub, with an order volume of around 327,000 euros, as Meetingpoint Magdeburg reports.
The first plantings have already taken place and the first two plant troughs will be installed in the western area next week. Two weeks later, seven more troughs will follow. The entire facility is expected to be completed by August 11, 2025. Foundations are also being excavated on Willy-Brandt-Platz to create a solid basis for the new greenery.
From Corten steel to planting
Particular attention is paid to the materials used. The troughs made of Corten steel, a material known for its durability and characteristic rust patina, not only create an attractive appearance, but are also extremely easy to care for. They are robust and ideal for outdoor use as they can be used outdoors all year round. In addition, the troughs are completely recyclable and environmentally friendly, as Metall im Garten emphasizes.
The dimensions of the troughs are also considerable: small troughs measure 7.5 x 3 meters, while the large troughs are impressive at 11.25 x 4.5 meters. These troughs are manufactured by Konstructive Glas- und Metallbau Zerbst GmbH and delivered directly. Small troughs come in one piece, while the large ones are delivered in individual pieces and are welded together on site.
Entrance area with flair
This creates an inviting space that is not only planted with trees and shrubs, but also enriched with perennials and grasses. Small features such as bollards and trash cans are added to further increase the quality of stay. Embankments opposite Kölner Platz and at the tangent exit complete the redesign, which covers the entire tunnel area.
For all those who want to design their own green spaces, the Stahlgarten offers a wide selection of plant troughs made of Corten steel. Whether for private gardens, terraces or public areas - the robust troughs bring freshness into the environment and encourage you to garden and linger.
