Closures in Magdeburg: Ring Bridge will be renewed in 2027!

Important changes are coming in Magdeburg: The ring bridge on Albert-Vater-Straße has suffered greatly over the years and urgently needs comprehensive renovation. The city council decided this at the beginning of November. The renovation will begin in 2027 and will take three years to complete, which will inevitably lead to temporary closures of the B1. The city is calculating costs of around 15 million euros for this measure, the majority of which will be covered by a funding program from the state of Saxony-Anhalt. In the coming months, the bus and tram connections in Magdeburg will also change as a result of these construction activities.

As the Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe (MVB) has announced, tram line 1 will run in two sections in the future. The northern part of the line will run between Kannenstieg and the main station, while the southern part remains between Sudenburg and Olvenstedter Platz. In addition, lines 4 and 10 are affected by diversions; They are routed between Südring and Hasselbachplatz via Wiener Straße and Leipziger Straße. Bus route 59 will also now run via the Südring. In order to relieve traffic, there will also be changes to the frequency.

Interruptions in local transport

The upcoming construction work affects not only the tram lines, but also the night bus lines N3, N4 and N5, which will also be rerouted. These adjustments require a certain amount of patience from commuters and passengers as the city works toward the urgently needed replacement of the bridge.

But it's not just the infrastructure that is being modernized in Magdeburg. The MVB also offers a wide range of training courses for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the professional world. Every year, an average of 50 trainees start their careers in the company. The training occupations recognized by the IHK Magdeburg include, among others, electronics technicians for industrial engineering and mechatronics engineers. Anyone who is interested can submit their application documents from August onwards - including a letter of motivation and CV.

Training at MVB

Training at the Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe is varied and future-proof. Here is an overview of some of the professions on offer:

  • Elektroniker für Betriebstechnik – 3,5 Jahre, Voraussetzungen: Realschulabschluss oder Abitur.
  • Mechatroniker – 3,5 Jahre, ebenfalls mit Realschulabschluss oder Abitur.

  • Gleisbauer – 3 Jahre, mit Teilausbildung in Königsborn.
  • Fachkraft im Fahrbetrieb – 3 Jahre, gute Vorkenntnisse in Mathematik, Deutsch und Englisch sind empfehlenswert.

The companies rely on well-trained specialists and offer future prospects such as a guarantee of employment if the qualification is good. The trainees also enjoy many advantages, including free use of buses and trains in the city area during the training period.

In the spirit of renewal and shaping the future, things are exciting in Magdeburg. Whether it's the renovation of the ring bridge or the training of skilled workers, the city shows that it has a good hand for important developments.
