Fire in Eisleben: Old ruin goes up in flames - cause of fire unclear!

A fire in the attic of an empty house in Lutherstadt Eisleben caused a stir on Sunday. About 40 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire that broke out in the unoccupied property. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the incident, which is certainly a small consolation for local residents.

The affected apartment building has been empty since 2020 and is considered in need of renovation. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the criminal police have started an investigation and are not ruling out arson. The estimated material damage amounts to around 15,000 euros, as MDR reported.

Explosion in residential building

Another exciting situation occurred in an apartment building in Eisleben, in which two people were injured. A 51-year-old resident heard a loud bang when he opened his apartment door, whereupon the flames broke out. What triggered the explosion is still unclear. The man and a 75-year-old neighbor had to be taken to a hospital, while all other residents of the house were able to get to safety on their own. The damage here was estimated at over 100,000 euros, as TAG24 found.

Despite the dramatic circumstances, all other residents were able to be evacuated unharmed. Due to the fire and water damage, they were temporarily accommodated elsewhere.

Causes and statistics

The frequency of fires and their causes is always the focus of investigations. According to current statistics from the [IFS](https://www.ifs-ev.org/ Schadenverhuetung/ursachenaktien/ursachenstatistics-brandschaeden-2024/), there are numerous factors that can contribute to such incidents. Therefore, a thorough investigation into the causes of fires is essential to avoid similar disasters in the future.

The two incidents in Eisleben impressively show how important it is to train the fire brigade well and to react quickly in the event of an alarm. In moments like this, every second counts!
