Police catch traffic offenders and breakers in Halle and the surrounding area!
In today's edition we report on various police operations in the region that have made headlines in the last few days. October 15, 2025 brings with it some explosive reports from Mansfeld, Sangerhausen, Merseburg and Teutschenthal. We also take a look at the topics of burglary and car theft from an insurance perspective.
While on patrol in Mansfeld, police officers noticed a car without license plates. An inspection revealed that the vehicle was not registered. The 56-year-old driver and the 57-year-old owner had a problematic meeting with law enforcement, who filed charges against them for violating the compulsory insurance law. Their further travel was immediately prohibited.
Damage to property and break-ins
A little later, the officers in Sangerhausen received a tip from concerned witnesses: a suspect was tampering with the car. When the police arrived, the man fled. However, he left a lasting impression - the vehicle had three slashed tires and an unknown fluid smeared on it. A backpack with tools was seized. The property damage amounts to around 300 euros and investigations into the property damage are ongoing.
In Merseburg, a hand fire extinguisher was stolen from a construction site and emptied on the street. The perpetrators were named on site and an investigation into interference with emergency aid was initiated. This shows how important it is for the police to intervene in a timely manner in order to prevent such acts.
In Teutschenthal, unknown perpetrators broke into a single-family home between October 11th and 14th, 2025 and forced open two windows. The investigation is still ongoing, as no precise information on the amount of damage or loot could be given at the moment. Such a break-in is always a significant burden for those affected.
Drunk drivers and their consequences
Another explosive report came from Merseburg: According to witnesses, on Tuesday evening a car drove into several cars and thereby committed a traffic accident. The police found three damaged vehicles at the scene of the accident. The driver, who was found on Geusaer Strasse, appeared confused and was slightly injured. A breath alcohol test showed 2.41 per mille - not a good reason for a night behind the wheel.
The officers took the driver to the hospital, confiscated his vehicle keys and handed them over to his wife. In addition, a banned brass knuckles fell into the hands of the police. That's why several investigations are now underway against the man for escaping a traffic accident, dangerous interference in traffic and violating the weapons law.
Insurance coverage for burglary and car theft
In view of these incidents, it is worth taking a look at the issue of insurance protection. In the event of burglaries or car thefts, affected citizens can hope for help from their vehicle insurance or household contents insurance. As the website noack-rechtsanwalt.de explains, partial or fully comprehensive insurance covers the costs of permanently installed parts such as car radios or navigation systems, while household contents insurance is responsible for loose items such as smartphones or wallets. However, if you leave your wallet in the car, you have to expect problems with claims settlement.
A particularly critical point is breaking in without visible traces. In such cases, it can be difficult for injured parties to receive compensation as many insurance companies insist that there are clear signs of a break-in. It is recommended to inform the police, file a report and document all missing items.
With regard to car thefts, the German Insurers Association (gdv.de) shows that a total of 14,162 comprehensively insured cars were stolen in 2023. The motor vehicle insurers paid out around 293 million euros to their customers. High-quality SUVs and upper mid-range models are particularly popular, with the average loss in the event of a car theft being around 20,700 euros.

If you are affected yourself, you should not be afraid to contact a traffic lawyer to protect your rights.
All of these reports illustrate how important it is to be vigilant and protect yourself with the right insurance. Be it a burglary or a car theft, having the right insurance can make a big difference.
