Raid in Mansfeld: Large cannabis plantation with 550 plants discovered!

On July 9, 2025, an illegal cannabis cultivation plantation was discovered in a small district of Mansfeld, which the police were able to catch in the act. This search was carried out on the basis of a court order and uncovered a large drug stash. A total of around 550 cannabis plants in various stages of growth were seized, and the officers also found 22 kilograms of consumable cannabis as well as numerous utensils for growing and processing the drugs. Cell phones and cash also changed hands - all evidence of suspected drug trafficking. Three men from Albania, aged 27, 29 and 42, have been provisionally arrested while the public prosecutor's office has applied for pre-trial detention orders. The suspects will be brought before a judge shortly and the investigation will be continued in the Central Criminal Investigation Department of the PI Halle (Saale) as there is suspicion of trafficking in cannabis products. Over 20 members of the state riot police were involved in this operation, which shows how seriously the authorities are taking action against drug-related crime.

Now you ask yourself what the current legal situation says about cannabis in Germany. The new legislation, which has been in force since April 2024, allows adults to possess and grow cannabis under certain conditions. This includes carrying up to 25 grams of dried cannabis and possessing up to 50 grams at home. Private individuals are allowed to grow up to three plants for their own use. There could be good business here for those who adhere to the new regulations, because anyone who exceeds the permitted quantities or acts outside the legal framework must expect legal consequences. Possession of more than 25 grams is classified as a misdemeanor, and criminal consequences can be expected if the amount exceeds 30 grams in public spaces.

A look at the cannabis culture in Germany

But what about general consumption and attitudes towards cannabis among Germans? Figures from the market research company show that cannabis is still the most commonly consumed drug in Germany. Over 5% of the adult population, which is around 265 million people worldwide, use this drug, and almost every third adult in Germany has tried cannabis at least once. Consumption is particularly widespread among young adults: over 40% have had experience with the drug.

Growing acceptance and partial legalization suggest that the way cannabis is used will change in the coming years. Medically prescribed cannabis also shows its effectiveness in the treatment of chronic illnesses, anxiety disorders and more - one more reason to consider the topic not only in a legal but also in a social context. If you visualize the development of cannabis culture in Germany, it is clear: There is something going on! The end goal is an orderly and responsible approach to this long-standing controversial issue.

But the events in Mansfeld make it clear once again that there are also dark sides that need to be combated as society moves in a new direction.
