Saxony-Anhalt: New youth alliance gives the young generation a voice!
Something is happening in Saxony-Anhalt: the political landscape is experiencing a breath of fresh air with the founding of the youth alliance in the BSW (JSW). On October 25, 2025, the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) officially announced that it had launched a youth organization to give the young generation a strong voice for reason and justice. The BSW not only wants to replenish its ranks, but also promote political participation among the younger population in the region.
The JSW has an ambitious goal in mind: It wants to address and mobilize young people between the ages of 14 and 35. The team of chairmen of the new organization consists of Maximilian Schwartz, a 21-year-old industrial mechanic trainee, and Vinzenz Louis Mühlbach, 31 years old and in further training to become a driving instructor. These two young men represent the BSW's desire to supplement the party's members, who have so far been over 50 years old, with fresh, dynamic voices. In doing so, the BSW is addressing a challenge that can be observed in many political organizations: the desire for a younger and more diverse membership structure. Loud daily news The average age of BSW members is over 54, with only 20% being under 40.
A new chapter in political participation
The comeback of young voices is no coincidence. The BSW plans to become active not only in Saxony-Anhalt, but also in other federal states such as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin. His overarching goal is to enter the state parliament as a new political force. The state elections in Saxony-Anhalt are on the agenda for September 6, 2026. The BSW is aiming to increase its membership from the current 2,800 to 10,000 by the end of the year in order to be stronger in the coming election.
The commitment of the young generation is unmistakable: according to a survey bpb The majority of young people between the ages of 16 and 32 took part in elections in the last 12 months. This shows that political awareness and the will to actively participate are strong. The BSW will take up the issues that are of concern to young people and take a stand, including against compulsory military service and for more investment in schools and infrastructure.
Integration and participation
What was particularly striking was that around 150 young party members and supporters were present when the JSW was founded, 113 of whom were entitled to vote. A few prominent faces were also present, such as the co-chair of the BSW, Amira Mohamed Ali, and Berlin's top candidate Oliver Ruhnert. Sahra Wagenknecht herself appeared in a video message. The JSW is not only open to party members, but also invites non-members to participate, highlighting the organization's inclusive approach.
The issue of political participation is particularly relevant. Be it opposing defense spending or engaging on social media, young people have many opportunities to make their voices heard. The JSW wants to use precisely these channels to represent the concerns of young people and to actively shape political decisions.
The founding of the youth alliance in the BSW is an exciting signal that the voices of young people not only need to be heard, but that they also want to take a place in the political discourse. The next few months until the state elections will show how the commitment of the young generation will continue to develop and whether the BSW can actually emerge as a new political force in Saxony-Anhalt.
