Late on Saturday night there was a serious traffic accident in the Salzland district in Saxony-Anhalt. At 3:15 a.m., the police and fire department were alerted when a 29-year-old driver crossed into oncoming traffic on the L63 between Sachsendorf and Aken and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. Both drivers were seriously injured and immediately taken to hospital.
The fire department had its hands full: it took the emergency services more than half an hour to free the 29-year-old from the wrecked car. But the shocking discoveries don't stop there. While searching for his ID, the police officers made an unpleasant discovery - next to an accident victim, they found an open bottle of beer and drug equipment in the vehicle. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol before driving, which led to a blood sample being taken at the hospital to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Closure of the country road
The effects of the accident were far-reaching: While the rescue work and the accident investigation were ongoing, the country road had to be completely closed. The road remained one lane until around 8 a.m. as the oil rescue service had to carry out a thorough cleaning of the road.
