Schönebeck: Florida Eis starts construction in spring 2026 – 500 jobs in sight!

In Schönebeck, work is underway at full speed on the construction of Florida Eis's new ice cream factory, after it has already been postponed several times. Construction of the plant, which was originally planned for 2022, is now scheduled to start in spring 2026 - probably from February. Managing director Olaf Höhn explained that all the necessary construction companies have already been organized and the construction work will take around a year and a half. The investment in the project amounts to around 25 million euros, an increase compared to the originally estimated 15 million euros.

The city of Schönebeck and the Salzlandkreis have signaled that all conditions have been met for construction to begin. The required building permit was granted in December, but there were delays due to complex application processes and difficulties with fraudulent construction companies. What is particularly noteworthy is that the construction site is currently largely unused and only containers, a wind tree and a construction sign exist.

The contribution to job creation

Florida Ice plans to initially create nearly 100 jobs at the new factory, with the possibility of increasing the number to up to 500. The Berlin company currently employs 330 people. However, there could be a loss of around 50 jobs in Berlin. Applications for various positions, including production managers, warehouse workers and truck drivers, will be open from January 2026.

The production facility has 44 ice cream machines, which make it possible to organize ice cream production in two or three shifts over five days. With the new factory in Schönebeck, Florida Eis also wants to respond to increased demand after the existing factory in Berlin is already overloaded. The first ice cream production from Schönebeck is expected at the end of 2026.

Sustainability and innovative technology

Particular attention is paid to the environmentally friendly design of the factory. The planned facility is to be realized as an energy self-sufficient building made of wood with solar panels and wind turbines. The use of hydrogen technology is also planned for the truck fleet. Managing director Höhn also plans to acquire the adjacent property in order to optimally supply the plant with renewable energy. This is in line with the increasing importance of renewable energy sources for climate protection and resource conservation, as well Federal Environment Agency emphasized.

The construction of the ice cream factory in Schönebeck could represent a big step towards sustainable industrialization and not only contribute to the regional economy, but also create numerous jobs in the field of renewable energies. With this investment, Florida Eis will open another chapter in the company's history and help to further reduce dependence on energy imports, in line with current economic and environmental challenges.

Interest in this development remains great. With an innovative approach and a clear focus on the future, Florida Ice Cream has the potential to not only produce the most delicious ice cream, but also to make a significant contribution to a sustainable and future-proof economy.
