Hallescher FC separates from coach Mark Zimmermann – a new start is imminent!
Hallesche FC is facing upheaval as the separation from head coach Mark Zimmermann was announced on June 15, 2025. The collaboration ended just over a year after he took office in July 2024, when he took over the club after relegation from the third division. Zimmermann, who had a contract until 2026, had finished second with his team in the Regionalliga Nordost, but there were internal disagreements regarding his position, which ultimately led to his dismissal. A clarifying conversation led to the decision, as MDR reports.
Zimmermann brought a lot of success with him during his time at the HFC. Under his leadership, the team became the best in the league in front of their home crowd and achieved a remarkable 1-0 victory in the cup against 1. FC Lok Stendal, which qualified for participation in the DFB Cup. However, the appearance in the cup game was described as frightening. Despite remaining in second place behind Lok Leipzig, the gap of six points could not be overlooked in the end. Zimmermann was able to score an impressive 2.06 points per game in league play. But the success didn't just seem to happen on the pitch, as internal differences contributed to the decision, as the Hallescher FC homepage notes.
A new course for the HFC
Now that the club has to operate without a key player, the question is who will take the helm. A new head coach has not yet been officially announced. For the time being, Sascha Examer, who was recently hired by FC Eilenburg, will act as assistant coach. Examiner is therefore likely to lead the club's fortunes, at least until a new head coach is installed.
Mark Zimmermann himself has an interesting coaching career that began in Jena. After various positions and a successful time with the U21 of 1. FC Köln, he finally took over the helm at HFC and had big plans for the club. According to Transfermarkt, coaching changes are not uncommon in the Regionalliga Nordost, and the statistics show how such changes can affect team performance. The end of his term in office now opens the door to a new beginning - both for Zimmermann and for Halleschen FC.
The coming weeks will be crucial to see in which direction the HFC will head and whether a new wind can soon spread through the club.
