New open-air theater in Tangermünde: What will it be called? Vote!
An exciting project is underway in Tangermünde! The traditional city on the water is looking forward to the opening of a new open-air stage in 2026. With this harmonious project, the imperial city and the renowned Altmark Theater in Stendal have joined forces to offer citizens and visitors a new cultural experience. Loud People's voice are already a musical, the schedule and financing are guaranteed. The project is facing an exciting naming process.
A jury of eight members chose three favorites from a wealth of 330 suggestions. Citizens now have until November 8, 2025 to cast their vote. You can choose from the three names “TangerDock”, “Hafenbühne” and “Karlsbühne”. Voting began on November 1st and is already very popular: over 200 people have already cast their votes in just 24 hours.
A musical highlight
The open-air stage will not only be an architectural gem, but also the setting for the highly anticipated musical “Spamalot”, a stage adaptation of Monty Python’s “Knight of the Coconut”. The premiere is set for June 20, 2026 and, like that People's voice reported, already sold out. In addition to the premiere, two school performances and nine other performances are also planned, which are also in high demand.
The open-air stage offers space for around 500 spectators and will therefore become the new contact point for music and theater enthusiasts in the region. It will be exciting to see how cultural life in Tangermünde will change with this new offer.
A look into the future
The ongoing vote on the name of the open-air stage is part of the effort to actively involve the citizens of Tangermünde in the project. Such initiatives could develop deeper community building that strengthens the city's identity.
The Altmark Theater and the city have shown a good hand with this ambitious project and are well on their way to creating a new cultural hotspot. Citizens can hope for an exciting time full of art, culture and community involvement.
