Stendal Christmas Market 2025: Festive highlights and surprises!
The magic of Christmas is just around the corner! With Advent comes the time of the festive markets, which light up the streets in many German cities and create a special atmosphere. Particular attention is paid to the Christmas markets in Stendal and Munich, which both open their doors in December.
The Stendal Christmas market will take place on the third weekend of Advent this year, from December 11th to 14th, 2025. The market square around the magnificent St. Marien Church will become a festive backdrop when Mayor Bastian Sieler opens the market on December 11th at 3 p.m. The children from local institutions have already decorated their Christmas trees, which increases the anticipation for the market even more.
Opening times and program in Stendal
Visitors can look forward to a colorful program. Regular opening hours are as follows:
- Donnerstag: 14 bis 19 Uhr
- Freitag: 11 bis 21 Uhr
- Samstag: 11 bis 22 Uhr
- Sonntag: 11 bis 18 Uhr
In the town hall, an artisan mile with local Christmas gifts is offered, while the longest Stollen in the Altmark is presented. There is also a children's program every day at 3 p.m., where Santa Claus himself also stops by.
The market is musically accompanied by live bands, including “Everything4U” on Friday and “Tick2Loud” on Saturday. The local artists and musicians are actively supported by the Stendal Music and Art School and the Rotary Club. A special highlight is the opportunity to climb St. Mary's Church and enjoy mulled wine and baked apples.
Stendal and Munich in comparison
While the traditional festive atmosphere prevails in Stendal, Munich boasts a variety of Christmas markets. The Christmas market, which has historical roots dating back to the 14th century, will take place at Marienplatz from November 24th to December 24th, 2025. Not only is traditional mulled wine served here, but there is also a large nativity scene and children's program. The Christmas markets in various districts, for example at the Viktualienmarkt or in the English Garden, also attract numerous visitors and offer a wide selection of traditional and international delicacies, from gingerbread to Italian pralines.
Particularly worth mentioning is the Tollwood Winter Festival, which takes place from November 25th to December 23rd, 2025 on the Theresienwiese and promises a colorful hustle and bustle with organic food and handicrafts.
More than just mulled wine and gifts
There are over 2,500 Christmas markets in Germany, which not only shine with festive lights and music, but also serve as popular travel destinations. Whether in Goslar with its Christmas forest or in Leipzig, where the market is considered one of the oldest and largest - the Advent weekends are always an opportunity to experience traditions and enjoy the pre-Christmas season to the fullest. So if you visit one of the many markets, such as Stendaler or one of Munich's, you are guaranteed to be able to immerse yourself in the festive magic!
