Traffic vigilance required: Accidents near Lüderitz are increasing!

On June 19, 2025, there was a traffic accident with personal injuries on the A 14 near Lüderitz, which was caused by disregarding the new right-of-way regulations. A 76-year-old driver of a VW was driving on the L 30 towards Windberge, while a 37-year-old driver of another VW wanted to turn left from the A 14 onto the L 30. The older driver did not notice the changed traffic signs and therefore did not give the female driver the right of way. As a result, there was a collision in the junction area, in which the 76-year-old's vehicle was thrown onto its side. Fortunately, he was uninjured, while the 37-year-old and her passenger had to be taken to hospital with minor injuries. The damage to both vehicles was significant. Magdeburg-Klickt reports.

But that wasn't the only incident that day. A few hours earlier, at 12:58 p.m., another accident occurred at the same location when a 60-year-old Fiat driver also ignored the right-of-way rule. She collided with a 55-year-old VW driver who also wanted to turn off the A14. Fortunately, no one was injured in this accident, but there was damage to both vehicles.

A third incident

There was also another incident on June 19th at 1:41 p.m. on the A 14, more precisely in Colbitz, where a 69-year-old BMW driver left the road for unknown reasons. He broke through a wildlife fence and ended up in a corn field. The driver was also uninjured in this accident, but his vehicle had to be towed away.

Statistics and road safety

These incidents are not isolated. According to the Statistics from the Federal Statistical Office There were around 2.5 million traffic accidents in Germany in 2023. The evaluation of this data helps to analyze the situation in road traffic and to develop suitable measures to improve traffic safety. Tragic aspects such as the 19,193 traffic deaths in 1970 compared to 2,839 in 2023 are striking. The aim is to achieve zero traffic deaths by 2050 under the motto “Vision Zero”.

The most common causes of accidents with personal injuries are insufficient distance, improper speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. In 2023, there were around 15,700 alcohol-related accidents, which claimed 193 lives and resulted in 18,686 injuries. Accidents involving wildlife are also a relevant topic: 2,351 such accidents were registered. Statista provides comprehensive information on this.

Overall, these events and statistics show the need to continue to remain vigilant on the road. Both traffic education and regular updates on traffic regulations are crucial for safety on the roads.
