Farewell to Wolfgang Böhmer: A life for Saxony-Anhalt and the faith

With the death of Prof. Wolfgang Böhmer, Saxony-Anhalt has lost an influential personality. Der ehemalige Ministerpräsident ist am Montag im Alter von 89 Jahren verstorben. In his role from 2002 to 2011, he led the country through significant upheavals and was a reliable interlocutor for many groups, especially between churches.

Regional Bishop Friedrich Kramer expressed his sadness over the loss and praised Böhmer as someone who was firmly anchored in his faith and always acted unobtrusively. Kramer's words demonstrate a high level of appreciation, which is not only limited to Böhmer's sovereign leadership, but also to his ability to promote stabilizing relationships between the churches the town parish of Wittenberg reported.

A bridge builder between worlds

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also commented on Böhmer and described him as a responsible person. Steinmeier emphasized that Böhmer acted as a bridge builder between East and West and that his work will never be forgotten in Germany Cathedral radio reports. Likewise, the current Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Reiner Haseloff (CDU), sees Böhmer as one of the great Saxony-Anhalt people who stood for balance and traditions while at the same time calling for modernization.

The mourning for Böhmer is evident not only in political circles, but also in the church. Catholic Bishop Gerhard Feige praised Böhmer as an unpretentious person who placed great value on the truth. These diverse references to Böhmer reflect how much he was valued and what role he played in the country's history.

Yesterday and today: what happens next?

In the midst of this sad news are the challenges ahead for Saxony-Anhalt. The Evangelical Regional Church of Anhalt is looking for ways to create trusting cooperation with the future state government. Topics such as schools, social interaction and the return to familiar ways of working after COVID-19 are the focus, it is reported the regional church of Anhalt.

A funeral service for Wolfgang Böhmer will take place on Monday, July 7th, at 4 p.m. in the Wittenberg town church. This ceremony will be performed by Regional Bishop Friedrich Kramer and Dr. Gabriele Metzner, the superintendent of the Wittenberg church district. A final farewell to a man whose legacy will live on not only in politics but also in the country's society.
