Construction site noise in Weyhe-Leeste: residents fight for peace!

In Weyhe-Leeste it is currently going well! The construction work for the extension of line 8 has started and have a variety of challenges for the residents. Since July 17, 2025, it has been working on an area of around 8,000 square meters, which will later accommodate the turning loop of the new tram line. The area on which the construction work is done partly belongs to the municipality of Weyhe and partly the Bremen-Thedinghauser Eisenbahn (BTE). Residents were informed about the planned work at an early stage. According to the information, the Working Group (ARGE) plans to use the "Interim storage area 'Am White Moor'" from March 26, 2025 to store and process building material. Gräf, however, doubts whether the permits are correct, especially since material is crushed there, which not everyone considers admissible.

The ARGE is optimistic, however, and indicates that all work is carried out as part of a legally approved building project and the use of the area is therefore free of approval. They adhere to the emission limit values and implement measures such as a noise barrier to reduce the noise pollution for the residents. In fact, this is anything but an easy undertaking, because wherever you work, noise is generated. According to line1und8 , the specified values for noise protection are of great importance: a maximum of 55 dB (a) during the day may occur, at night there are 40 dB (A). In mixed areas, the limit values are 60 dB (a) during the day and at 45 dB (a).

The challenge is that the noise pollution that residents feel, often lies above these values and they have the opportunity to take legal steps. The Junior's law firm clarifies that there are legal regulations to protect residents against construction noise. This also includes noise -reducing measures that have to be implemented by the builders.

If the volume becomes unbearable, residents are entitled to noise reduction and can submit a complaint to the environmental office or the construction supervision. A rent reduction of up to 20 % is also possible if the quality of living decreases due to the construction noise. In order to protect your own value of the property, it is advisable to lead noise protocols and, if necessary, to involve a lawyer. A joint initiative of the residents could also help to put pressure on the institutions involved.

The construction work on line 8 is a necessary but often suffering chapter in the development of cities. While residents such as Alfred Gräf are confronted with the challenges of dust and noise every day, it is to be hoped that their voices will be heard and that the comfortable conditions of their neighborhood will not be affected too much. After all, on a construction site, progress is not only part of it, but also a respectful cooperation.
