Celebration of children's literature: Libraries Day in Weyhe on October 24th!
On Friday, October 24th, 2025, the time has finally come: Library Day is announced in Weyhe! And it won't just be any celebration, but a colorful celebration for the whole family, centered around the popular Lieselotte books by Alexander Steffensmeier. The focus is on a multilingual children's book reading that takes children into the magical world of the post cow Lieselotte. What's particularly nice is that the reading is offered in German, Turkish, Ukrainian and Arabic, and the organizers work closely with the Diepholz district adult education center. As [Kreiszeitung](https://www.kreiszeitung.de/lokales/diepholz/weyhe-ort54198/tag-der-bibliotheken-in-weyhe- Feiert-kinderliteratur-in-vier-sprach-93982464.html) reports, the popular “reading grandpa” Thomas Prieser will take over the German-language reading.
The events take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the culture barn and in the children's library. The program ranges from lively readings to musical interludes and creative craft activities. Antonia Kaluza will delight the children with her music, while creative tables for crafts, puzzles and painting around Lieselotte will be available on the upper floor of the library. A photo box with animal masks also provides additional fun and hands-on activities.
A place for reading and community
On this day, the culture barn will be a meeting place for everyone who wants to share the joy of books and stories. “Reading Grandpa” Prieser, who started reading almost three years ago, is looking forward to the many little listeners and their families. At his events he always experienced fully booked rooms and smiling faces. Library Day was launched in 1995 to promote reading and show the importance of libraries.
Families with children of all backgrounds are invited to experience the fascination of literature this afternoon. There won't be any shortage of fun either - craft and painting stations make the event an experience for all the senses. There will also be a lecture of images from the Lieselotte series in no fewer than 21 languages, underlining the multicultural element of the event.
Admission to the event is free and registration is not required, which creates plenty of incentive to stop by. However, there is a small note about how to get there: Due to a construction site at Henry-Wetjen-Platz, parking spaces are available on Hildegard-von-Bingen-Straße. This is especially important so that everyone has the opportunity to be part of this exciting day!
If you would like to find out more about current developments in book and literature funding, you can also consider the offerings of the German Book and Writing Museum in Leipzig. This offers an extensive program that extends to all age groups and covers both historical and current topics. Whether workshops or digital formats - there is something for everyone here, informs German National Library.
We are looking forward to an inspiring library day in Weyhe and hope that many book lovers, big and small, will be there!
