Art and music combines: Wittenberg's weekend full of highlights!

A sunny weekend is in front of Wittenberg! On June 28 and 29, 2025, at the beginning of the holiday, the city expects numerous cultural highlights that are suitable for both art and music lovers. While the temperatures are increasing, the last opportunity is to visit Thea Schleusner's impressive exhibition, which ends on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the town church and in the Zeughaus. According to Mz comprises around 80 works and life materials from the artist. At the same time, its “Passion Cycle” from 1947 is presented in the city church.

Rainer Naser, head of the Naser Foundation and Collector, will give visitors an insight into the life of Thea Schleusner. With ticket prices of 3 euros for the city church and 4 euros for the Zeughaus, including a tour, this is an opportunity that should not be missed.

The musical program of the weekend is impressive. On Saturday, June 28th, a concert will take place in the church in Kemberg at 5 p.m. Here the Grossenhain Youth Choir from Saxony and the Mexican youth choir Juvenil Domus Artis appear with the motto "Songs for a Better World". The audience can look forward to a varied program that includes Mexican folklore, modern church music and well-known film and pop songs. The choirs are accompanied by Marcel Schenk on the piano and Marco Vazquez on the guitar, under the direction of Gabriel Trujillo del Rio and Stefan Jänke.

Another musical highlight is the appearance of the chamber choir TonArt from Halle, which will appear on Sunday, June 29, at 3 p.m. in the St. Petri church in Wörlitz. The program is all about the forest and includes works by sizes such as Mendelssohn and Brahms. Admission to this concert is 10 euros.

For lovers of classical music, the castle concert in Oranienbaum Castle is available on Sunday at 5 p.m., which is entitled "Baroque with Flute". The cards are available from 24.50 euros. In addition, there will be a sea concert in Wörlitzer Park on Saturday at 6 p.m., which offers a gondola ride, a dinner and a wind concert from the Consortio Anhaltino. Remaining tickets cost 74 euros and the meeting point is the gondola station.

A look back at Thea Schleusner

Thea Schleusner, born in Wittenberg in 1879, is considered one of the most fascinating artists in the city. Her career stretched over various epochs, from Art Nouveau and the more expressive topics of her later work. During her career, she experienced the First World War, the Weimar Republic and National Socialism. After the Second World War, she found her artistic work at the age of over 65.

The upcoming mega exhibition "A life for art-the expressive-symbolist worlds of Thea Schleusner", which will open on August 31, 2024, is the first extensive retrospective on the occasion of its 60th year of death. Under the direction of Dr. Rainer Naser and Dr. Monika Kaiser are presented over 280 works, supplemented by more than 50 loans from public collections. All visitors have the opportunity to stroll through various locations in the historic old town of Wittenberg and to learn more about the history of this remarkable artist.

The exhibition runs until January 12, 2025 and offers opening times in the urban collections, the Cranach Foundation and the Christian Art Foundation.
