Sika increases production in Wittenberg: Focus on new injection resins!
Something is happening in the Lutherstadt Wittenberg: The renowned building materials manufacturer Sika announces that a comprehensive production expansion will take place at the location. With the aim of responding to the increasing needs in the construction industry, in addition to the already popular products such as parquet adhesives, silicone sealants and bitumen sealants, injection resins for waterproofing, known as Sika Inject, are now also produced. Frank Rösiger, the head of operations at Sika Germany, emphasizes how important this measure is for strengthening and securing the location. The plant, which has been in operation since 1991 and employs around 150 people, will therefore be used more extensively as a production facility. This is reported by the Baumaterialmarkt online website.
The changes are part of a strategic realignment, which also includes organizational adjustments. From July 1, 2025, shipping for the trading business will be relocated from Wittenberg to the branches in Augsburg and Hamm. This is intended to concentrate the capacity of the Wittenberg plant on expanded production. Adhering to such changes shows that Sika has a good knack for setting the right course even in challenging times.
Challenges in the construction industry
The experts expect a slow but steady recovery through government infrastructure projects, housing renovations and ESG investments. A lot of movement is expected, especially with regard to dilapidated motorway bridges. However, the tense situation in the housing market remains and there is still great pressure on the price sector. Nevertheless, infrastructure expansion could become the only significant growth driver for Germany.
Increased focus on infrastructure
While construction activity in Germany was weak in 2024, a shortage of skilled workers and rising costs are a challenge for construction companies. To counteract this, Sika relies on innovative products and optimized production to meet overdue demand. In addition, the importance of public-private partnerships (PPP) is expected to increase, which could give additional impetus to infrastructure expansion. With the right investments and strategies, the situation in the construction industry could gradually ease.
Overall, the signs point to growth, even if this comes with challenges. Sika with its new production approach and focused strategies could make a fundamental contribution in these turbulent times. It will be interesting to see how the situation will develop and what further steps will be taken.
