20 years of Schlösserland Saxony: A cultural treasure celebrates joy and the future!
The Schlösserland Saxony is celebrating a very special anniversary in 2023: 20 years of a strong brand. Founded in 2005, this tourism marketing association has set itself the task of promoting cultural experiences and impressive buildings in Saxony. The central message is: Saxony is a land of castles and stories. The State Palaces, Castles and Gardens of Saxony gGmbH (SBG) is in charge and over 50 members now benefit from innovative educational offerings.
To celebrate the two decades, the numerous advantages that membership in the association brings with it are highlighted. These include, among other things, a multimedia app, social media channels and a joint annual ticket, which also includes regional measures. These offers are financed by an annual participation fee and state funding from the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWKT). The Leipzig region forms an important part of the network with five important facilities, such as the Colditz Castle, Rochlitz Castle, and the Burg Kriebstein.
Diverse offering and innovative solutions
Saxony not only has castles, but also offers an impressive variety of over 1,000 palaces, castles, fortresses, parks and gardens. Many of the buildings come from different architectural styles such as the Middle Ages, Baroque and Renaissance and many date back to August the Strong. In addition to impressive buildings, these historic sites are home to museums, exhibitions, restaurants and even accommodation. Many of these places also host numerous events such as concerts and medieval festivals.
A special highlight is the schlösserlandCARD, which was introduced in 2007 and offers advantages for both tourists and locals. While the card provides access to the most beautiful palaces and castles in Saxony for 10 days, there has also been a digital version of the schlösserlandCARD since 2017. The latter is supplemented by the revised “Experience Schlösserland” app, which offers fun and has been downloaded 40,000 times.
A look into the future
The association is planning a new five-year strategic plan for 2026 that will focus on recreation as a reason to visit. The new “Excursion Planner – Leisure Experiences in Leipzig and the Region” will also be presented, which offers an overview of tourist-relevant destinations. This brochure is not only available free of charge at the Tourist Information Leipzig, but is also available to download.
There are so many impressive palaces and castles in Leipzig and the surrounding area that invite you to discover them. Whether it is the Moritzburg Castle with its interactive time travel or the Königstein Fortress in Saxon Switzerland, the possibilities are diverse. And don't forget: The baroque garden Großsedlitz is often referred to as Saxony's Versailles, which has its own special feature.
So if you're planning a trip or just want to explore Saxony's magnificent palaces and castles, you'll find plenty of information and inspiration on the websites schloesserland-sachsen.de and leipzig.travel/burgen. Whether for concerts, weddings or simply for relaxation – the Schlösserland Saxony has something to offer for every occasion.
