Well, that was a shock on Saturday evening: near Hartha in the Central Saxony district, a 25 meter high beech tree fell onto a moving car and caused drama on the side of the road. The accident happened at 6:35 p.m. on the route from Minkwitz to Wendishain when the tree with damaged roots directly hit the rear of a VW Golf. Fortunately, the occupants escaped the fright, but two of the three vehicle occupants, two young men aged 18 and 21, had to be treated on an outpatient basis, while the 82-year-old driver remained uninjured n-tv reported.
The weather was stormy at times that day - a circumstance that certainly contributed to the tree fall. The material damage to the VW Golf is estimated at 10,000 euros, while a parked VW, which was also affected, had damage of around 1,000 euros, according to this Day24.
Rescue workers on duty
After the incident, the Hartha and Wendishain fire departments were alerted to close off the K7540 road and eliminate the danger zone. The emergency services dismantled the fallen tree and cleared the debris out of the way. They also felled another damaged tree as a precaution to avoid future risks. The road was completely closed throughout the entire operation.
With a fair amount of shock and having “got away well”, the two injured people can certainly say that they were very lucky on that stormy evening. You could say that nature has shown a good hand this time - because it could have turned out much worse.
